CITY PARK PREVIEW: 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., the Charleston County Public Library auditorium, 68 Calhoun St. The public will have a final chance to review plans for a city park on the former Ansonborough Fields site near the South Carolina Aquarium. The plans are for the park itself, not the commercial and residential development planned on either side of the park.

Book Introduction: “Awendaw”, by Tim Penninger at 2 p.m. at the SeeWee Visitor Center, 5821 Us Highway 17, Awendaw, SC.  In conversation with William (Billy) Baldwin, Tim Penninger gives stories of his family and others in the Awendaw area. Tim literally grew up with history underfoot, and from the age of 8 on, he’s been collecting artifacts – and collecting tales – in this area. Tim says, “The land and the story are indeed intertwined. Every field and tree stand has a name. Every broken clay pipe and chip of stone has a voice”. A generous sample is given in this book “Awendaw”. Look at the Stars: The College of Charleston Physics and Astronomy Department opens its observatory atop the Rita Liddy Hollings Science Center to anyone who wants to take a peek around Earth's neighborhood. Weather permitting, the observing deck will be open from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Enter the Rita Liddy Hollings Science Center via the Coming Street entrance (between George and Calhoun streets) and follow the signs. If you plan to bring a group of 10 or more, please call ahead to Chris True at 953-2031. In the event of bad weather, C of C astronomers and students will answer questions in room 125.
