Charleston Area Honored By Southern Living Magazine

Charleston, SC – April 2005 – Charleston was honored by readers and staff in Southern Living magazine’s current issue entitled Southern Living Favorites. This special yearly issue highlighted the Charleston area in numerous categories including Top City, Favorite Spots, Shopping, Restaurant, and Culinary delights.

The 205 Favorite Spots Awards were based on Southern Living’s 140 editorial staff member’s favorite picks in a variety of categories. Kiawah Island was voted a Most Romantic Spot and Best Spot to Walk the Beach, The Charleston Area was voted a Best Spot to Take a Walk, Charleston Place Hotel, Middleton Place and Cypress Gardens were all named favorite places in South Carolina. Staff members also voted on their favorite culinary regions and Lowcountry Cuisine came out on top in the Tastes of the South category.

The readers of Southern Living also lauded the Charleston Area in other categories. Charleston was awarded Top Southern City. Savannah, GA and New Orleans, LA were right behind taking second and third place, respectively. Charleston was also awarded the best Shopping Destination and Magnolia’s Restaurant was listed in the Splurge Restaurant category.
