Kiawah resort gets top rating

Families love Kiawah Island, according to Travel + Leisure Family readers. For the first time, The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort ranked as the No. 1 family-friendly resort in the U.S. and Canada. Last year, the poll ranked it as the top family resort in the East and Southeast. The Sanctuary opened in August 2004 with 255 rooms and suites. It is located directly along Kiawah's coastline, and features two outdoor pools and an indoor pool. The resort offers children's golf and tennis programs, as well as nature-based recreational options, such as alligator walks, family kayaking in the salt marsh and ocean seining. The ratings appear in the fall issue of the magazine, which publishes quarterly and has a circulation of 500,000. The Sanctuary ranked above other more established resorts such as Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa in Anaheim, Calif.; The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.
