A necklace valued at $125,000 was among the items taken in a string of burglaries Friday on Kiawah Island.

According to incident reports from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, residents of two homes on Cormorant Island Lane reported their homes had been broken into sometime Friday evening or early Saturday.

In one case, the victim said entry may have been gained through a door that was left unlocked. A platinum, cultured pearl and diamond necklace by Tiffany was taken, as well as a $7,000 Rolex white and titanium watch. Several coins and miscellaneous other jewelry were taken. Another Tiffany bracelet valued at $25,000 and a Rolex watch valued at $8,000 were left untouched, the report said.

In the other case, entry was made by prying open a garage door and going through a laundry room. The only thing reported missing were keys to the residence.

A burglar alarm that went off about 3:30 p.m. Friday at a house on Snowy Egret Lane may have thwarted a thief who dropped a bag of silver and turquoise jewelry. Entry to the house apparently was made through the garage and a storage area under the house. The jewelry, valued at $1,000, was returned to the victim.

Anyone with information about the burglaries should call the Sheriff's Office at 202-1700 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
