Diamondback Terrapin Booth

The diamondback terrapin turtle is a native species to Kiawah Island, as well as up and down the Eastern coast.  Marilyn Blizard volunteered at the booth, telling people of the terrapins plight.

This is the diamondback terrapin that lives at the Kiawah Island Nature Center.  It is named Dottie (for all of the dots on its skin).  Stop by the Nature Center and say hello!

Marilyn speaks to some folks interested in the diamondback terrapin turtle.

Does this girl seem excited about holding the turtle?  She seems a bit unsure...

A crab trap with the by-catch reduction device (BRD) installed.  Crabbers say that the BRD's have not reduced the number of crabs that they catch.  But they save the turtles!
