Johns Island - Though beautiful, some say the roads on Johns Island are nothing short of a road hazard.
"Drive them in heavy traffic or try to miss a deer and hit an oak tree or dodge a DUI you will find out how dangerous they are," said Councilman A. Victor Rawl.
Council members putting the rubber to the road, voting to move forward with a study to build a new road, the Johns Island Greenway which would run from the Betsy Kerrison Parkway to the intersection of Maybank and River Road. Also included in that study, the widening parts of Maybank Highway.
"You've got to deal with it and we've not dealt with it, we've dealt with it by sticking our heads in the sane for a long long long time," he said.
There are others who are on the opposite side of the street from council, worrying that its not the roads that are bad but the drivers on it.
"If you drive considering the condition of the roads, you don’t drive fast you don’t tailgate, don’t talk on the cell phone and it's very simple to get from one end of Johns Island to the other,” said Johns Islander Rich Thomas.
