The March issue of Southern Living, with its cover story 'Charleston's Romantic Charm,' reads like an ode to the Holy City.

In her letter to readers, editor in chief Eleanor Griffin writes; 'We're highlighting the allure of Charleston, South Carolina, this month because it's a city you've told us you're passionate about. From its iconic azaleas and camellias to its graceful piazzas, the city's mystique draws us back time and time again.'

The issue, which hit newsstands last week, includes some features that extend beyond dining and hotel picks, including the history of plants most associated with Charleston and what makes local home designs, such as the aforementioned piazza, so special. The cuisine write-up also identifies the cornerstone ingredients in local recipes.

Mayor Joe Riley even talks about his longest night in 33 years on the job: When Hurricane Hugo hit in 1989 and watched a tin roof roll across the street, not knowing it had flown off his own office.
