Charleston is among the nation’s top 10 winter getaway destinations for U.S.
travelers, according to a recent analysis by the online travel agency
Orbitz.com.
Winter weather on the U.S. mainland typically boosts travel to Hawaii, but
the Holy City — the only winter destination travelers favor that isn’t in
Hawaii, Florida or California — placed sixth on the list, beating out three
Florida destinations and one in California. Maui, Hawaii, topped the list as
the No. 1 winter destination for U.S. travelers.
The results of the Orbitz analysis were based on the percentage of growth in
hotel bookings on Orbitz.com from Dec. 21 through Feb. 28 of the years 2005
through 2008.

3. Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
4. Key West, Fla.
5. San Diego, Calif.
6. Charleston, S.C.
7. Fort Lauderdale/Miami, Fla.

9. Santa Monica, Calif.
10. Fort Myers, Fla.
