November 28, 2008

It is sunny and a little warmer on Kiawah this morning.

A Thanksgiving Poem

'Twas the night of Thanksgiving,
But I just couldn't sleep
I tried counting backwards,
I tried counting sheep.

The leftovers beckoned -
The dark meat and white
But I fought the temptation
With all of my might.

Tossing and turning
With anticipation
The thought of a snack
Became infatuation.

So, I raced to the kitchen,
Flung open the door
And gazed at the fridge,
Full of goodies galore.

I gobbled up turkey
And buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots,
Beans and tomatoes.

I felt myself swelling
So plump and so round,
'Til all of a sudden,
I rose off the ground.

I crashed through the ceiling,
Floating into the sky
With a mouthful of pudding
And a handful of pie.

But, I managed to yell
As I soared past the trees....
Happy eating to all -
Pass the cranberries, please.

May your stuffing be tasty,
May your turkey be plump.
May your potatoes 'n gravy
Have nary a lump.

May your yams be delicious
May your pies take the prize,
May your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off of your thighs.

May your Thanksgiving be blessed!

Week-end Weather: It is 50 degrees at 9:00 this morning. Be on the lookout for showers later today - work off that Thanksgiving meal early! Highs Friday in the low sixties, with a 20% chance of rain. Lows should be in the low fifties with a 90% chance.  Highs Saturday should be near sixty with a 70% chance of showers.  Lows Saturday night are supposed to be in the mid-fifties with a 90% chance of rain.  Sunday's high is also supposed to be near sixty, but with a near 100% chance of rain.  Lows should be in the upper forties with a 70% chance.

November 27, 2008  ** Happy Thanksgiving **

Kiawah is sunny on this gorgeous Thanksgiving morning, yet another thing to be thankful for!

Your Thanksgiving Forecast, courtesy of Farmer's Almanac...

Turkey Dinner  Turkeys will thaw in the morning, then warm in the oven to an afternoon high near 190F. The kitchen will turn hot and humid, and if you bother the cook, be ready for a severe squall or cold shoulder.

Steaming Turkey  During the late afternoon and evening, the cold front of a knife will slice through the turkey, causing an accumulation of one to two inches on plates. Mashed potatoes will drift across one side while cranberry sauce creates slippery spots on the other. Please pass the gravy.

Bright Sun  A weight watch and indigestion warning have been issued for the entire area, with increased stuffiness around the beltway. During the evening, the turkey will diminish and taper off to leftovers, dropping to a low of 34F in the refrigerator.

Dark Cloud  Looking ahead to Friday and Saturday, high pressure to eat sandwiches will be established. Flurries of leftovers can be expected both days with a 50 percent chance of scattered soup late in the day. We expect a warming trend where soup develops.

By early next week, eating pressure will be low as the only wish left will be the bone!

Weather: It is 41 degrees at 9:00 this morning. What happened to our 53 from yesterday morning?  YIKES! Highs today in the low sixties.  Tonight's low should be in the upper forties.

November 11, 2008 Veteran's Day

Kiawah is sunny this morning, and slightly warmer than recent mornings.  Once again we have been blessed with a fabulous morning! The sun is shining, a dazzling ball of bright light in a sky of azure blue. The air is crisp and cool - Kiawah's version of fall weather is here! While the island does not celebrate fall with the orange and browns of the northern climes, it does have a distinct fall palette. The sweet grass and groundsel, goldenrod and marsh grass, all contribute their unique colors to the fall landscape. What colors have you noticed on Kiawah this fall?

It is sunny but chilly on Kiawah this morning.   It is a fine November morning!. The sun is shining brightly and the birds are singing. In other words, all is right on Kiawah...

There must have been a fish smorgasbord off Kiawah's coast yesterday. There were dolphins galore frolicking off shore. Some were very close - perhaps a dozen yards from the beach - while others were off in the distance. They were gliding through the waves, occasionally seeming to body surf a curl on their way to snatching a tasty morsel. Have you seen any dolphins lately?

Weather: It is 52 degrees at 9:05 this morning. We should have another glorious day on the island!  Highs today in the upper sixties, lows tonight in the upper forties.
