It is lovely on Kiawah this morning.
The humidity is fairly high, but the sunshine is out in full force.
Quite a change from the week-end! Everyone is still picking up from
Gaston's winds, but Kiawah is looking better with each passing hour.
Those maintenance folks for KICA are working double-time!
Hurricane Frances is still a
category four hurricane.
We will be watching this one very closely...
It is 77 degrees at 9:00 this morning.
It is supposed to be in the mid-eighties today, and in the low seventies
tonight. There is a 40% chance of rain both today
and tonight.
Today's Kiawah Critter Count:One
bald eagle, one male
cardinal, one
great blue heron, three five-lined skinks, two
golden silk spiders, three female
white-tailed
deer, two fawns with their spots nearly gone, one buck, and one
raccoon.

Kiawah is back to "normal" this morning.
It is a beautiful sunny day! It is a bit hazy, with no real breeze
to speak of. It looks like we will have time to pick up our yards
and get things back in order without getting drenched! At least we
hope so...
We were very lucky again this week-end.
Another storm passed us by. Let us sincerely hope that Hurricane
Frances does the same!

And though not a critter, an AMAZING glowing orange full moon...

***Tropical Storm Gaston***
Tropical Storm
Gaston is still affecting our weather. It is 2:00 p.m. and though
the wind is still gusting at times, the worst seems to be over for Kiawah.
We have lots of downed tree limbs, and low-lying areas have some standing
water. We are still advised to stay off the roads due to the winds
and rain.
Kiawah is receiving heavy rains this
afternoon. Looks like it is time to curl up with a good book! It
certainly doesn't look good for the
Governor's Club
Tennis Round Robin at West Beach this
afternoon, does it?
As of 11:00 a.m. it
was located 40 miles northeast of Charleston.
As of 9:00 a.m. it
was located 30 miles east of Charleston.
Tropical Storm
Gaston is still headed this way! As of 7:00 a.m. it
was located 35 miles east-southeast of Charleston. A hurricane warning is
still in effect for the South Carolina coast...again! So Kiawah is
being pelted with very heavy rain this morning. Looks like it is
time to curl up with a good book! It certainly doesn't look good for the
Governor's Club
Tennis Round Robin at West Beach this
afternoon, does it?

The clouds are thick and
heavy over the island this morning. It is difficult to say whether
they will burn off later today, or if Kiawah will actually receive the
rain forecasted for today. Maybe some showers will cool things off a bit, or at least shoo
away the humidity for a short while.

wonderful day to get outside and play!

There are no clouds on Kiawah this morning!
Just lovely blue skies and sunshine.
Have you ever ridden your bicycle or
driven your car around the island early in the morning? If you look
closely you will see beams of sunlight pushing through the tree limbs.
The sunbeams create pools of light on the roads and paths, with small
slivers of shade from the hanging Spanish moss. It is quite beautiful.

Kiawah is a bit overcast
this morning. While it is a bit early to tell if we will see some

certainly appears that we will. Of course it looked that way
yesterday too, and we only received a very brief shower. It seems
that there were showers during the night, but nothing lasting enough to
leave more than a few meager puddles.
It is 75 degrees at 8:30 this morning. The

typical August weather
for Kiawah - humid, mostly sunny, very warm, and a chance of showers.

at the pool. How will you "beat the heat" today?

We have another fabulous summer day here on Kiawah this morning!
It sounds like you had better hurry up and enjoy the outdoors this morning
though, as there is a high chance of rain today.

ceremony with some special guests, a reception, and tours. They were
capped with a great fireworks show last night.

Kiawah is lovely this morning, if a wee bit
humid. But what can we expect for the dog days of summer? The
paths are nearly empty now, with folks headed back home and kids to
school. It's a shame that so many people have to miss some of
Kiawah's most magnificent days in September and October!
The opening for The Sanctuary is here at long
last. It will be open to the public beginning at 1:00 p.m. today.

It looks like yet another fabulous day on our little
barrier island. This morning the ocean breezes blowing across Kiawah are gentle and fresh - like
breaths of warm air brushing your face. Even the water is calm and
peaceful. Will you be spending any time at the beach today?

At long last,
the rain has let up and
Kiawah is beautiful and
sunny this morning!
It is
a lovely summer day. Although the sunshine is
welcome, all this rain has worked a summer miracle on the island.
The trees are tall and the vegetation is lush - not typical for a dry,
humid summer. So why not "go outside and play" in Kiawah's fantastic
summer playland today?

Kiawah is overcast again this
morning. We have certainly been receiving our share of
rain recently! The tourists must not be too happy - but everyone's lawns are certainly appreciative,
even if the beachgoers are not.
Can you see the two deer
in today's photo? Kiawah's "dune deer" are around often. If you are
quiet and observant you might spot them. Have you ever seen deer on the
beach? Or perhaps hoof prints?

Notice from Kiawah Island Utility
St. Johns
Water Company will be making a connection on Bohicket Rd,
Tuesday, August 17, 2004. Kiawah will be sharing a very limited supply of
water with Johns Island & Seabrook. KIU is asking you to restrict all
irrigation from 5:00 PM Monday to midnight Tuesday. We do not like asking
our customers to reduce or restrict flows for any period of time, but must
do so because of the very limited amount of water available during this
time frame. I apologize for the short notice, but hope you will be able to
prepare for this interruption of service without difficulty.

It is overcast on Kiawah
this morning. Wish we could say that it was a beautiful day today,
but alas! We still had some heavy thunderstorms last night, complete
with a terrific light show. It looks like there is more rain in store for
today.
Yesterday afternoon
post-Charley there were several places with inches of standing water at
The Preserve. This is true all around the island - perhaps we should
all get our kayaks out to get anywhere? There are branches strewn
all over the paths and roadways, as well as Spanish moss and palm fronds.
Luckily there are no major blockages anywhere. Kiawah certainly
escaped a close one this time!

Kiawah was the recipient
of some hard rain last night courtesy of tropical storm Bonnie. It (she?)
pummeled the island throughout the night, but seems to have drifted away
right now. It is overcast and a bit "drippy" currently.
Hurricane Charley is still headed this way. A

Charleston county. Batten down those hatches, because it looks like
Charley is serious! Are you prepared? If not, click here to review

It is a bit overcast on Kiawah again this morning.
We received some light rain earlier this morning, but are dry for now.
It is just a tad sticky with low hanging clouds overhead.
If we manage to avoid clouds and showers this
evening, tonight there is a "mustn't miss" astronomical event - the
Perseids meteor shower is in town!
Dozens of meteors will streak through the skies every hour.
You can see the meteors tonight, but the best hours for viewing are 2 to 5 a.m.
tomorrow. Grab a blanket (watch out for fire ants!) lie down and look up!
Keep your fingers crossed that the rain stays away...

Yesterday Kiawah still was enjoying the
effects of that Northern front that arrived last Friday. The

Lots of folks were out and about enjoying
Kiawah's remarkable cool spell yesterday. The paths and the beach
were loaded with bocce ball players, bicyclists, and some pretty talented
sandcastle builders!
Do you often take folks out on bikes in
search of alligator photos? If so, you will definitely want to check
out the Kiawah Island Natural
Habitat Conservancy's web site. There is an alligator photo
there that is not to be missed! Hint: look carefully at the top of
the mama alligator's head...

Did you enjoy the cooler weather yesterday?
Perhaps you even opened up the windows last night to let in some fresh
air? If so, you awoke this morning to a cool breeze and softly
rustling leaves. It looks to be a rare day for August, and a fabulous day
on Kiawah. See you on the beach!

to speak of, just lots of humidity.
School begins Monday, and at most other schools soon after,
so tourist season is winding down. Hopefully everyone who
visited Kiawah this year enjoyed themselves immensely and will be back in
the future. How was your summer?

day on the island.
We have 90% humidity,
but at least today there is not a chance of rain. Do you find it difficult
to believe that summer is nearly over already?
