The skies are gray and overcast for Kiawah this
morning. The clouds have rolled in and look to be sticking around for
a while. The temperature is quite nice however, so no excuses for
staying inside all day!

from highs in the upper seventies to lows in the

morning. The island received quite the drenching yesterday, as the rain
kept up until well into the afternoon.

We are in the midst of a downpour on Kiawah this morning. It
has been raining for a while now, though the thunder seems to have ceased.
It has been a month since we have had some really serious rain on
the island, so while we may not like it, our plants and yards certainly
will!

The clouds rolled into Kiawah late last night,
bringing us some brief sprinkles early this morning. The sky is
quite overcast - sort of a gunmetal gray - but it looks bright behind all
the rain clouds. It looks like a day to grab a good book and curl up in
your favorite armchair.
The marsh along the Kiawah River The marsh is one of Kiawah's
changing wildlife habitats. If you watch it for any length of
time, you will see flora and fauna galore!

It's another fabulous day on Kiawah Island - the birds
are singing and the sun is shining! Yesterday's sprinkles have gone, leaving behind
a nice breeze for us this morning. It looks to be a marvelous day today,
with plenty of sunshine. How will you celebrate this terrific
weather? Tennis? Golf? A long bike ride? Whatever your
choice, today is sure to be a good day for it!

Kiawah is gray and overcast this morning, and we have
been on the receiving end of a few sprinkles. The surf is crashing
fiercely onto the beach, and the sky is an ominous shade of charcoal.
Looks like there won't be much playing outside today.
A big HELLO to a first-time Kiawah visitor, Beryl Unger! This lovely
lady from Zimbabwe was strolling the beach this morning and stopped by our
turtle patrol team to say hello.

We have more sunshine this morning on
Kiawah. It is already fairly warm and humid - how do you spell H-U-M-I-D-I-T-Y? It
is steamy this morning. You can see windows fogged up
as you walk down the street. Our air conditioners will be working
overtime!
Did you know? Kiawah is home to many species of snakes. You
can find them in all parts of the island: the dunes, the maritime forest,
the beach, the surf, the ponds, the marsh, and swampy areas. About half of
South Carolina's 30 species of snakes can be found on Kiawah. The
Town of Kiawah Island has a terrific brochure describing some of
Kiawah's snakes. It is free, and is available at the
Visitor's Center at the Town Hall.

Kiawah
is partly sunny this morning, with just a slight
breeze. Sunrise was fabulous - a glowing orange ball rising slowly
above the sea oats and dunes. Have you seen the beach at sunrise
recently? It's worth the trip!
KICA News: Quarterly server maintenance will
be conducted this weekend, overnight between 1:00am and 9:00am (Eastern)
on Sunday, September 18. The KICA website and email (and thus, the List)
may be inaccessible during that time. Visitors to the website will be
greeted with a brief message explaining the maintenance and inviting the
visitors to return to the site after 9:00am. Any emails that are sent
during that time will be stored and delivered once maintenance is
complete.
Beach Sweep: Don't forget the beach sweep Saturday at 8:30
a.m.!
Astronomy 101: The Full Harvest Moon is Saturday at 9:01 pm.
This is the full Moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. At
the peak of harvest, farmers can work late into the night by the light of
this Moon. Usually the full Moon rises an average of 50 minutes later each
night, but for the few nights around the Harvest Moon, the Moon seems to
rise at nearly the same time each night: just 25 to 30 minutes later
across the U.S.

noon until 8:00 p.m. Friday. The heat index will be near 105.

Hurricane Ophelia News: This is our final update.
Ophelia is currently sitting just off the Outer Banks in NC. Kiawah
suffered no damage from this hurricane, just some brief showers
and occasional gusty winds. We are thankful it passed
us by.

We really have not had much rain yet - just a few sprinkles last night.
There were a few strong wind gusts during the night, but thus far nothing

Kiawah
is lovely and sunny this morning. The
temperature is still fairly cool, and at sunrise the sky was the most
amazing shade of pink... Hurricane Ophelia is still well off the coast, but
bears watching. The Weather Channel says it will be another 5 or 6
days before we will know her ultimate destination.
Don't Forget: The public hearing on the proposed Development
Agreement at the Town Hall Friday at 2:00 p.m.
Eagle News: One of the nice things about this community web
site is the ability to look back on the past few years and see trends, and
this one is TERRIFIC! Each fall our Kiawah eagles have shown up

We have another wonderfully cool morning on Kiawah
this morning. The breeze is soft and fresh,
moving gently through the Spanish moss. Some might even say this is
perfect Kiawah weather. Would you?
Island News: The roundabout is finished! The lane
going from Kiawah to Charleston has been unveiled, so now when leaving the
island you no longer drive on the roundabout. Ditto for the lane

Kiawah is
sunny and cool this morning, and it feels terrific! It
seems that we will have a wonderful Labor Day, perfect for picnics, beach
time, and just general lazing around. Here's hoping your holiday is

Kiawah is
mostly sunny this morning, and very humid. The weather
this week-end should be marvelous, with no change of showers forecasted as
of Friday morning. Will you be able to get outside and play?
Don't Forget: KICA's Friday Night Farewell Fiesta at
the Sandcastle. From 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, this promises to be a
fabulous time for everyone!

Kiawah is covered with more gray
overcast skies this morning. It seems much cooler than
it has been recently. In fact, when was the last time we had a
morning with a "7" in the temperature? It has certainly been a
while!
Island News: The Town of Kiawah
Island has announced that the inbound lane of Kiawah Island Parkway
(near main Freshfields entrance) will close for 4-5 hours beginning
Thursday, Sept. 1 at 9:00am. Flagmen will be directing traffic. Should
