October 31, 2005 Happy
Halloween!

Kiawah is gorgeous and sunny this morning. The
birds are certainly enjoying this weather - at least if their songs are
any indication! There is quite a racket outside this morning.
Maybe they are also happy about "falling back" Sunday? Who wouldn't
be excited about an extra hour of sleep?
Did you know? "Soul food" has been at the heart
of Halloween night for hundreds of
years. Treats offered on October 31st can be traced to the ancient Celtic
celebration of Samhain, a pagan holiday marking the start of the new year
on their calendar. The November 1st festival was a time to gather the
harvest and prepare for winter, but also when the souls of the dead
returned to the earthly world - or so the Celts believed. To keep the
ghosts at bay, the Celts would place offerings of food and drink outside
their homes.
Weather: It is 58 degrees at 9:00 this morning.

It is another beautiful morning on Kiawah! The fall colors
are making themselves known now... look around and you will see dark purple beauty berries, yellow goldenrod,
plum-colored sweet grass, and white puffy
salt myrtles at the edge of the marsh. Fall has arrived!
Don't Forget: Sunday is

Kiawah is sunny and cool again this morning, just another little bit of
Arctic chill from Mother Nature. Despite the cool temperature, the morning is crisp, clear,
and sunny. Not a bad day to get outside and play!

We have more sunshine on

It is sunny on Kiawah this morning, but quite
chilly for this time of year. Apparently Mother Nature has her months
mixed up, thinking it is January, not October. But with all the
sunshine it is still quite beautiful, so grab a sweater and head outside
to play!

Soaked, sodden, drenched, waterlogged, sopping... what
other words can we use to describe Kiawah this morning? It began raining
late last night, and will continue for a few more hours at least.
Guess Hurricane Wilma is going to have her say after all!
Don't Forget:
Today is the day to pick up your tickets for the Classical Guitar concert!
The concert will be on November 13th, and is sponsored by the Town of
Kiawah Island's Arts Council. Tickets will be

Kiawah is sunny and bright this morning. Despite a
slight chance of rain, it looks like this will be another lovely day on
the island.
Did
you know? Friday and Saturday the Orionids meteor showers
will be in town. They are comparatively small showers, with 15 to 25
meteors per hour. For best viewing, take a beach towel or a lawn
chair out to the beach and look to the South between 2 and 4 a.m. If
the weather cooperates, you will see swift streaks of light flash
through the sky. Oh, and if you go Saturday night, better take a
blanket! Brrrrrrrr...
Week-end Weather: It is 68 degrees at 9:10
Friday morning. The high Friday is supposed to be in the low eighties with

There is more sunshine on Kiawah this morning, and we
have a slight breeze. But it is much warmer than the past week's

complain! October on Kiawah is gorgeous, uncrowded, and just
generally perfect!
Weather: It is 69 degrees at 9:10
this morning. Today's high should be in the low eighties. The low tonight

Kiawah is fabulous again this morning! There is a
slight cool breeze and the sunshine is out in full force. The weather
should be perfect for outside activities, as it will be at least 80
degrees today. How will you spend today? On the beach? On a
bike? Perhaps go for a walk? Whatever you choose, enjoy!
Have you noticed all the busy squirrels lately?
We seem to have a bumper crop of acorns this year, and the squirrels are
industriously running to and fro, stashing acorns for cooler weather.

The bloodflowers are blooming now, as well as goldenrod and sea mallow.
Everywhere you look, Mother Nature is parading glorious colors across the

Kiawah is sunny and glorious this morning.
It is a wee bit chilly, but it feels terrific!
No doubt anyone who left a window cracked last night awoke burrowed under
the covers. Perfect sleeping weather...
Island News:
The Kiawah Island Parkway and most of Governor's Drive have received
their fall face-lift. The KICA folks have been hard
at work during the past week putting out fresh pine straw, and it looks
great!
Don't Forget:
Today is the last day to get tickets to KICA's
Lowcountry Oyster Roast. Contact (843) 768-3875 or
sandcastle@kiawah-owners.org for more information or to reserve space.
Enjoying a short nap?
Just don't get too close! Alligators are quite fast, even on
land. So be sure to give them a wide berth, even if they seem to
be sleeping...

October 14, 2005 Week-end Edition
This is one of the nicest mornings Kiawah has had in
simply ages! The morning is cool, breezy, and sunny. The pair of
great horned owls
was back near Marsh Island Drive last night, calling to each other
back & forth across the marsh. Perhaps they were setting a tee time?
Or deciding on which tennis venue to use? OK, so owls don't play.
But you do! So get outside this week-end and take advantage of this
incredible weather! See you on the beach!
Week-end Weather:
It is 63 degrees at 8:10
Friday morning. Friday's high should
be near eighty, and the low is supposed to be in
the mid-sixties. Another glorious day is headed our way Saturday,
with highs in near eighty and lows in the low sixties. Sunday will
also be fabulous, with low eighties as the high and low sixties during the
night. Throw open those windows and celebrate!

October 13, 2005
Kiawah is cool and mostly sunny this morning. It
looks like it will be one of those perfect Kiawah days, so be sure to go
outside and play today!
Last night
the island was cool and breezy. If you had been
sitting outside as full darkness set in, you would have been treated
to a cricket serenade. Late in the evening a pair of
great horned owls
joined the chorus, calling back and forth. Was it our very own
Kiawah Symphony Choir?

It is drizzly on Kiawah this morning, with gray skies
and cool breezes. Though cooler than it has been recently, some humidity
remains and temperatures in the low eighties linger. It seems that "open
window weather" is still slightly out of our reach.

The photo to the left is certainly a faint memory for Kiawah this morning.
It is overcast again, and it certainly looks like more than a 30% chance
of rain. We received a bit of rain last night, and it is
currently misting just a bit. The sky is gray and cloudy, but the
temperature is nice and cool. If you don't mind a little rain, it
would be perfect walking weather! When was the last time that you

Kiawah is once again overcast and gray this morning.
It is slightly cooler than recent mornings though, so that's a nice

like you will need it!

Here we go into Day Five of Kiawah's "broken record weather"!
After a fairly dry August, this week's rain was at first welcome.
But now? C'mon Mother Nature, give us some sunshine!
This weather for ducks is supposed to last all week-end, so batten down
the hatches!
Island News:
Those of you who use AOL as your Internet
Service Provider (ISP) may be experiencing difficulties with e-mail.
AOL has confirmed that they have made "a master systems
change to reduce their clients' spam". This is apparently causing a
problem receiving some e-mails. Kudos to the folks at KICA for
identifying this issue! After some
KICA e-mail list subscribers asked
about a problem, they diligently tracked it down to AOL. At this time
other ISPs do not appear to experience this issue.
Week-end Weather:
It is 76 degrees at 9:15
Friday morning.
There is a 100% chance of showers, with

raccoon,
and
dozens of
snowy egrets
October 6, 2005
Kiawah is in Day Four of our "broken record weather",
with more clouds and showers. This was supposed to be a rainy week, but a
visit from Tropical Storm Tammy has certainly notched it up a bit.
The record daily maximum rainfall was broken in downtown Charleston
yesterday!
Tropical Storm Warning:
Tropical Storm Tammy is crossing southern
Georgia, and looks to be weakening. We should still see lots of rain from
it today, and possibly wind as well.

Tropical Storm Tammy.

Once again we have overcast skies on Kiawah this morning. So
it looks like this is Day Three of our "broken record weather",
another cloudy and rainy day. Doesn't Mother Nature realize there
are golf and tennis games to be played?

Kiawah is gray & overcast again this morning. It
is Day Two of our "broken record weather", as today is an exact repeat of
yesterday. Do you have a good book to read, or a movie to watch, just in
case?
Are there aliens on Kiawah? Remember when you were a child and you
saw
praying
mantis' everywhere? It seems they are making a comeback!
Weather:
It is 71 degrees at 9:15
