July 29, 2005 Week-end Edition
Kiawah is sunny this morning and slightly less humid -
thank goodness! It seems that we should see a little cooler temperatures
beginning Saturday and lasting at least through the week-end. The
highs are supposed to be in the upper eighties, which will feel like a
cold front after almost two weeks near 100 degrees!
Today's Kiawah Critter Count includes baby loggerhead turtles, as once
again the web master had turtle patrol... Click the link above to see what
creatures are hanging out on Kiawah these days.
Astronomy 101: The Delta
Aquarids meteor showers will strut their stuff again Friday night. You
should see slow, long paths, with roughly 15 to 25 meteors per hour. The best
viewing is to the
South between 1:00 and 3:00 am. Find a place with a clear view of
the sky and arrange for deck chairs or a blanket. Happy stargazing!
Heat Index: Today have another heat advisory
until 7:00 p.m. The heat index is supposed to
be between 105 & 108.
It is 85 degrees at 9:30 Friday morning. The temperature Friday should
range from highs in the low nineties to lows in the upper seventies,
with a 20%
chance of showers both during the day & evening. Saturday Kiawah
is supposed to have highs in the upper eighties and a low in the
mid-seventies, and there is a 50% chance of rain. We should see a
repeat on Sunday, with temperatures during the day in the

It is sunny and humid on Kiawah again this morning.
We are still in the midst of this extreme heat wave, but hopefully an end
is in sight. The weather is supposed to break sometime Friday, and
will hopefully bring slightly cooler temperatures and eliminate this awful
humidity!
Astronomy 101: The Delta
Aquarids meteor showers will strut their stuff tonight and tomorrow night.
They have slow, long paths, and there should be 15 to 25 meteors per hour,
so should be a bit easier to spot. The best time to watch is to the
South between 1:00 and 3:00 am. Find a place with a clear view of
the sky and arrange for deck chairs or a blanket. Happy stargazing!
Heat Index: Today we once again we have an "excessive
heat warning" until 8:00 p.m. The heat index is supposed to

off a spectacular orange red sunrise over the beach. There are certain
benefits of getting up at 5 a.m. to do turtle patrol. This morning was a
banner morning, as this web master released ten baby loggerhead
hatchlings!
J
The loggerhead babies are included in

July 22, 2005 Week-end Edition
Kiawah has sunshine this morning, at least for now.
The sky is covered with clouds though, so barely any blue peeks through.
It looks like we will be getting some rain again. Last night's storm
did not appreciably change either the temperature or the humidity levels,
but perhaps another shower so close on its heels might do so?
Heat Index: Once again we have a
heat advisory from noon until 8:00 p.m. this evening. The
heat index is supposed to be between 105 and 110 just inland from the coast.
Please be careful out there!

We have sunshine, humidity, and nary a breeze on Kiawah this morning.
Typical July weather in other words.
Astronomy 101: It's that time again! The Full Buck Moon is
tonight, so named because July is normally the month when the new antlers
of buck deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. It
was also often called the Full Thunder Moon, for the reason that
thunderstorms are most frequent during this time.
Heat Index: Once again we have a
heat advisory, this one from noon until 8:00 p.m. The
heat index is supposed to be between 105 and 108 immediately inland from the coast.
Be careful out there!

July 20, 2005
Kiawah is sunny and humid this morning.
Does this sound like a broken record?
Early in the morning or late in the afternoon, if you go outside, be
dressed for HOT weather! The golf courses and tennis courts are
nearly empty after early morning - you can hardly blame folks for trying
to avoid the heat of the day. Sounds like the beach or the pool is
the order of the day!
Freshfields News: Kiawah Seabrook Medical Center of
Roper St. Francis opened July 18th. The center was relocated from the
office near the Seabrook Main Gate. The new facility offers expanded
diagnostics services in a beautiful new location on Freshfields Drive
between Bank of America and Vincent's Drug Store.
Intent on lunch?
Today's photo is shared by Kelly Bragg. This great blue

We have more sunshine on
Kiawah this morning.
This morning offers us more July weather
- mostly sunny, humid, and very warm. There are lots of folks wilting in this sticky heat!
It would be a perfect day to enjoy the ocean breezes or perhaps spend time
at the pool. How will you "beat the heat" today?

125 nests on our beach as of July 18th. So far no nests have

Kiawah is covered in sunshine this morning, but the
humidity is still hanging around. Has anyone else noticed that the
"Squirrel Olympics" are in town? Every day squirrels are playing
"Corkscrew Chase" up and down the trees, racing across yards, and "flying"
from palm frond to palm frond. They certainly seem to be holding
their own track & field events!

Rolling thunder is crossing Kiawah this morning.
So you have probably guessed that we have gray, overcast skies with LOTS
of
humidity. Ick.
Did you know? The St. John's Fire Department has a new
"toy"! It will be delivered this Saturday, and after training will be
housed at Station 4 on the Kiawah Island Parkway. Curious about the new
vehicle?

Kiawah is back to gray and overcast skies this morning.
The island
is in full "July mode"...
hot and humid, with
possible showers on the way. Most of Kiawah's critters find that staying
out of the sun helps them keep cool, though the
golden silk spiders don't
seem to mind the heat! The lie in wait in their webs, hoping for a
stray bug or dragonfly to happen upon their web.

heat?

Kiawah has sunshine and azure blue skies this morning.
If we can stay away from
the rain, today should be a terrific day to "get outside and play"!
Kiawah has several nature trails, some with ponds, some with observation
towers, and some with boardwalks. One of these is the Sparrow Pond
Nature Trail. It is located near Sparrow Pond and Duneside Cottages. As you walk or bicycle the
paths, you will see a natural pond and vegetated island. Native
plants and animals are there for your viewing pleasure as well! Have
you ever visited Sparrow Pond Nature Trail?
Don't Forget: to attend the book discussion

The sun is playing hide-and-go-seek on Kiawah this

10 minutes later there will be sunshine. Looks like a typical summer
day here on the island.
