July 31, 2009 Week-end Edition

It is raining on Kiawah this morning, but just a bit.  The sky is cloudy, and there is just a slight breeze from the west. Can you believe that we are already at the end of July?  Where has the month gone? This July must be one of the coolest on record, with our temperatures in the eighties instead of the hundreds.

Island News: School begins soon, and as in previous years, there are some children at Mt. Zion Elementary school who would welcome your assistance. You can donate school supplies or cash to help them out. Please click here for information.

Little Blue Heron This little blue heron was spotted at Willet Pond by Bob Struble recently.

It is partly sunny on Kiawah this morning. It seems that the slight chance of rain all week this week has increased just a bit.  Rather than 20% most days, now we are up to 40%.  While the plants could certainly use a good rain, most of us hope it doesn't arrive, or does so during the nights.

Astronomy 101: The Delta Aquarids meteor showers will strut their stuff again tonight. Slow, long paths of 15 to 25 meteors per hour should make them easy to spot. The best time to watch is to the south between 1:00 and 3:00 am. Find a place with a clear view of the sky and arrange for deck chairs or a blanket. Happy stargazing!
