Kiawah is sunny and warm this morning. Springtime has settled into the Lowcountry, complete with warm sunshine, balmy breezes, and beautiful blossoms.  Enjoy it while you can, because summer will be here before we know it!  

Weather: It is 72 degrees at 9:00 this morning. It is another glorious day in paradise! The high today should be near eighty, the low tonight in the mid-sixties. 

Today's Kiawah Critter Count  Two male cardinals, one five-lined skink, three red-winged blackbirds, three American alligators, one osprey, several brown pelicans, one white-tailed deer, two double-crested cormorants, and dozens of snowy egrets on Sea Marsh Drive.

The sun in shining brightly on Kiawah this morning, and even the birds seem happy about it. The beachgoers today would probably agree with them! 

If you look closely you will see magnolia blossoms ready to burst open to welcome the warmth of the sunshine. What flowers do you have where you live?

Weather: It is 67 degrees at 9:00 this morning. Today's weather should be a mirror image of yesterday - sunny and lovely! Highs in the upper seventies, lows low sixties.

It is sunny and warm on Kiawah this morning, and it certainly seems that we have a fabulous spring day in store for us!  

Kiawah awaits the bold explorer! Here is a little known suggestion for you budding Columbus' out there: why not investigate the Kiawah Swamp Garden?  The garden is located on Turtle Beach Lane (accessible by bicycle). It is a secluded wetland garden, where you can usually see many alligators and turtles, as well as several varieties of Kiawah's native plants. Can you locate it?

Weather: It is 67 degrees at 9:00 this morning. If you didn't get your outdoor fix yesterday, here is another chance!  Highs in the upper seventies, lows tonight near sixty.

It is another gorgeous day in paradise! Kiawah is bathed in sunshine this morning, and it is already somewhat warm. Looks like a terrific day to be outside soaking up the sun!  

Weather: It is 68 degrees at 9:00 this morning. Today looks like it will be simply marvelous!  Highs today near eighty, lows in the low sixties.

April 24, 2009 Week-end Edition

It is sunny and quite warm on Kiawah this morning.  Hope you are ready for a glorious week-end, because it has arrived!

Did you know? This Saturday, April 25th, 9am to 1pm at Night Heron Park is Cars in the Park. This is a free event sponsored by the Kiawah Island Community Association and open to people off island as well as our neighbors at Cassique and Seabrook Island. The show will feature Cars Ranging from 1931 Ford Model A Roadster to 2009 Audi R8. There will be sports cars, classic cars, coups, sedans, convertibles and more. Food and Drinks will be available on site. Of course, children and pets are welcome.

Week-end Weather: It is 72 degrees at 9:05 Friday morning. Our week-end is shaping up to be simply gorgeous! Friday's high should be in the low eighties, lows in the low sixties.  We should receive more of the same on Saturday, with highs in the low eighties, and lows in the upper fifties.  Last but not least, Sunday is supposed to bring us highs near eighty and a low near sixty.

Kiawah is sunny and warm this morning. The island is bathed in brilliant sunlight right now. The birds are singing like mad - guess they are excited about the sunshine too!

Weather: It is 65 degrees at 9:05 this morning. It looks like we are at the start of several days of completely FABULOUS weather! Highs today in the upper seventies, lows tonight in the upper fifties.

It is sunny and breezy on Kiawah this morning. It is perfect weather for... EARTH DAY!

Earth Day: The Town of Kiawah Island will be collecting E-Waste Materials and have an on-site document shredding company today. Shredding will take place at Town Hall from 10:00am to 12:00pm (there is no charge for this service). E-Waste will be collected from 10:00am to 2:00pm.  Click here to see a list of items that will be accepted.

Astronomy 101: The Lyrids meteor shower continues tonight. Find a place with a clear view of the sky and arrange for chairs or a blanket. Expect 10 to 20 meteors per hour for the Lyrids, with the best viewing time is between 2 and 4 a.m.  

Weather: It is 60 degrees at 9:05 this morning. There are no showers on the horizon today, just sunshine! Highs in the low seventies, lows in the low fifties.

Kiawah is sunny and warm this morning. Luckily we did not get much of the storm front that passed through South Carolina yesterday, and the rest of the week looks to be quite lovely.

Astronomy 101: The Lyrids meteor shower will strut its stuff tonight and tomorrow. The best way to watch for meteors is to find a place with a clear view of the sky and arrange for chairs or a blanket. Expect 10 to 20 meteors per hour for the Lyrids, and the best viewing time is between 2 and 4 a.m.  

Weather: It is 63 degrees at 9:10 this morning. We have a slight chance of showers today - a mere 20%!  Today's high is supposed to be in the mid-seventies, lows tonight in the low fifties.

It is warm and overcast on Kiawah this morning. It seems we have a 50-50 chance of showers today, so get your outdoor time in early!

Did you manage to get outside to play this week-end?  We had fabulous weather on the island, with gentle cool breezes and warm temperatures.  All in all it was a terrific time to be on Kiawah!        

Weather: It is 69 degrees at 9:10 this morning. Our glorious week-end has given way to possible thunderstorms. Highs today should be in the mid-seventies, lows in the upper fifties.  There is a 50% chance of rain both today and tonight.

April 17, 2009 Week-end Edition

Kiawah is sunny and cool this morning. Our live oaks seem to be finished dropping their leaves, so now they are sending their small "tags" our way. No more fallen leaves everywhere, now we are dusted with brown oak tags.

Did you know? If you click the weather icon on the home page, you will see a new web site that shows the detailed forecast for Johns Island.       

Golf Fan? Ann Crane was golfing at Cougar Point golf course when she looked up and spotted this bobcat.  Guess even bobcats enjoy watching golf live instead of on television!

Week-end Weather: It is 53 degrees at 9:05 Friday morning. Our week-end should be a fabulous celebration of balmy temperatures and cool breezes. Highs Friday near seventy, lows in the mid-forties. Saturday's high should be in the low seventies. with a low in the mid-fifties.  Sunday brings us our first possibility of showers, with a a high in the low seventies and a 20% chance.  Lows are supposed to be in the low sixties with a 40% chance of rain.

April 16, 2009

It is sunny and breezy on Kiawah this morning. The wind has brought us slightly cooler temperatures, and it is not leaving anytime soon. This afternoon we should look for winds in the 20 mph range. Kite flying anyone?      

Town News: The Town staff again is participating with South Carolina's Palmetto Pride in its' Spring Roadside Clean-up.  On April 24th from 9:00 am to 12:00pm, Town staff and volunteers will join together to check the roadsides and marsh areas along the Parkway and Beachwalker Dr. Last year during the "sweep" 15 bags of trash and recyclables were collected! Join us for a couple of hours of clean-up and help in doing your part in making the first impression of the island a positive one. Lunch will be provided following the "sweep". Contact Town Hall if you will be participating at 768-9166. Please ask for either Cathy McLerren or Rusty.

Weather: It is 56 degrees at 9:05 this morning. It may be a bit windy today, but there are no showers on the horizon. Highs near seventy, lows in the mid-forties.

Kiawah is back to its normal sunny self this morning. Not that we don't appreciate the rain Mother Nature sent over the past two days, but somehow we just enjoy the sunshine more!  Wonder why that is...? <wink>

April 14, 2009

Once again it is gray and overcast on Kiawah this morning. There is a pretty good probability that we will get more rain today, so keep those umbrellas handy!  If you are already tired of the rain, just keep repeating to yourself... "April showers bring May flowers".       

Weather: It is 66 degrees at 8:30 this morning. Despite getting rained on yesterday, it looks like there is a good chance we will receive more today. Highs in the mid-seventies, lows in the low fifties, both with a 50% chance of showers.

April 13, 2009

Kiawah is overcast this morning, but we have no rain at present. More and more signs of spring are popping up around the island - azaleas are strutting their stuff, dogwoods have blossomed, and butterflies are beginning to appear. Everywhere you look you see bursts of color. What signs of spring have you noticed?      

Weather: It is 61 degrees at 9:00 this morning. There is no telling if the showers currently to the west of us will pass us by or not.  Highs today near seventy with a 50% chance of rain. Lows tonight in the low sixties with a 90% chance.

April 10, 2009 Week-end Edition

It is sunny and warm on Kiawah this morning. We have quite the wonderful week-end headed our way!  What plans do you have to enjoy the fabulous weather?     

Looking for the nursery Kathy Heikes says this very pregnant doe has been hanging around her house for quite a while, apparently looking for a nursery for her young one. 

Week-end Weather: It is 64 degrees at 9:15 Friday morning. Temperatures should be in the mid to upper seventies all week-end!  Highs Friday in the low seventies, lows in the low sixties with a 30% chance of showers.  The 30% chance sticks around for Saturday, with highs in the upper seventies.  Lows should be in the mid-fifties Saturday night.  Highs Sunday are supposed to be in the upper sixties, the low in the low fifties.

Kiawah is sunny and breezy this morning. Mother Nature has sent warmer temperatures to us again, so once more we have glorious spring weather. What will you do with this wonderful day?     

Weather: It is 60 degrees at 9:10 this morning. Our day will be something to celebrate! Highs in the low seventies, lows in the upper fifties.

April 8, 2009

It is a bit chilly on Kiawah this morning - a mere 46 degrees - but still sunny and beautiful. Critters are settling into their spring homes and habits...a raccoon has taken up residence in a large live oak. A momma raccoon lived there last year, raising two young. Hopefully this is the same friendly raccoon! It was wonderful to watch her teach her babies to climb the tree, observing them as they grew up. What Kiawah critters have you spied lately?   

Weather: It is 46 degrees at 9:00 this morning. It should start warming up by tomorrow thank goodness! Highs should be in the low sixties today. Lows tonight in the low fifties.

April 7, 2009

It is sunny but cold on Kiawah this morning.  Last night some very strong winds blew across Kiawah, no doubt responsible for the severe drop in temperature.  It is still quite windy this morning, but it seems to have died down a bit, thank goodness!  

Weather: It is 46 degrees at 9:10 this morning. That is more than a 20 degree drop since yesterday morning.  Wow! Highs today near sixty. Lows tonight in the mid-thirties.  ** Plant Watch - cover those delicate plants...

April 6, 2009

Kiawah is overcast and windy this morning. Thankfully we had a fabulous sunny week-end that we can remember during today's showers.

This week-end was wonderful for everyone on the island! It certainly seemed that everyone who was here was outside in some fashion - on foot, on bicycles, on roller blades...there were even a few intrepid swimmers down by The Beach Club! Did you get outside yesterday?   

Weather: It is 68 degrees at 9:10 this morning. There is a tornado watch this morning until 1:00 p.m. Today's high should be near seventy with a 50% chance of rain. Lows tonight in the upper thirties.  YIKES!

April 3, 2009 Week-end Edition

It is sunny on Kiawah this morning - finally!  Mother Nature has graced Kiawah with a fabulously beautiful morning. The sun-dappled trees are draped across the paths, decorated with Spanish moss that seems to be floating in the gentle breeze. Birds dive and loop through the branches, calling to one another as they go about their business.  

Town News: The Town is proud to announce the addition of a new recycling center located behind the Municipal Building. Co-mingles (aluminum, plastic and glass), paper products and cardboard will be collected at this site. In early April, we will also be replacing the center located behind the firehouse on Sora Rail Rd. Look for additional lighting and new signage to enhance and create a safer drop site.

Week-end Weather: It is 67 degrees at 9:00 Friday morning. After several days of rain, there is zero chance predicted for today!  YEA!  Highs Friday in the mid-seventies, lows in the upper forties.  Saturday's high should be in the mid-seventies, lows in the mid-fifties. Highs are supposed to be in the mid-seventies again on Sunday, with a 20% chance of rain. That increases to a 60% chance Sunday evening, bringing lows in the low sixties.

April 2, 2009

Kiawah is still on the receiving end of showers this morning. It rained throughout the night, so be on the lookout for puddles and standing water.  April showers indeed! 

Town News: The Town is proud to announce the addition of a new recycling center located behind the Municipal Building. Co-mingles (aluminum, plastic and glass), paper products and cardboard will be collected at this site. In early April, we will also be replacing the center located behind the firehouse on Sora Rail Rd. Look for additional lighting and new signage to enhance and create a safer drop site.

Weather: It is 64 degrees at 9:10 this morning. Despite a long stretch of rain yesterday, we should anticipate  rain all day today as well.  Highs near seventy, lows in the low sixties, both with a 90% chance of rain.

It is drizzling on Kiawah currently, and the overcast skies are probably sticking around for today. 

Weather: It is 63 degrees at 8:45 this morning. We can expect the rain to hang around for most of the day. Highs near seventy with an 80% chance of showers.  Lows tonight in the low sixties with a 50% chance of rain.
