It is sunny and gorgeous on
Kiawah this morning, but looks can be deceiving. What appears to be
a warm sunny morning certainly is NOT! If you venture out this
morning, you might wish to wear a sweater or jacket, because "baby it's
cold outside"! It should warm up by this afternoon however, so
perhaps you might actually make it to the beach?
Weather: It is 44 degrees at 9:00 this morning.
Whew! These morning temperatures are certainly bringing on the heaters,
aren't they? Highs
near sixty again today, lows near forty. Brrr...

Kiawah is mostly overcast this morning, and quite a bit colder than
yesterday. Yesterday's rain dropped the temperature drastically,
and presumably heaters will be fired up tonight. Are you ready for
cold weather?
Weather: It is 50 degrees at 9:05 this morning.
Guess we are back to normal November weather. Highs

It is sunny and warm on
Kiawah this morning. We near the end of November with gorgeous sunny skies
and weather warm enough to wear shorts and a t-shirt. Wow!
We have a day that makes you realize what it is that you so love about
Kiawah! Could it be residual gratitude or appreciation from
Thanksgiving? It could be. But then again, it could be that
a gorgeous sunny day at the end of November is simply wonderful! A
day where you can wear shorts (!) outside while playing with your family
and friends, can just make you glad to be alive. Enjoy your day!

November 25, 2011 Week-end Edition
Kiawah is sunny and gorgeous this morning, but cold! Brrr... Here's
hoping that you have many things to be thankful for! You could begin
with...family, friends, the haystack color of the fall marsh, the azure
blue of the creeks, phone calls from a distance, cold weather, baby
showers, blooming sasanquas, your Thanksgiving Day feast...
What are you thankful for?
Bobcat Kiawah's bobcats are quite
stealthy, and you have to really be on your toes to spot one. This
bobcat was hiding in the edge of the maritime forest near The Preserve.
Have you seen a bobcat lately?
Week-end Weather: It is 39 degrees at 8:45 Friday morning.

November 24, 2011 ~ Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving on Kiawah has turned out to be a lovely
sunny day. There will be lots of happy pilgrims today, playing
outside and working off that huge dinner!
A THANKSGIVING POEM
'Twas the night of Thanksgiving,
But I just couldn't sleep
I tried counting backwards,
I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned -
The dark meat and white
But I fought the temptation
With all of my might.
Tossing and turning
With anticipation
The thought of a snack
Became infatuation.
So, I raced to the kitchen,
Flung open the door
And gazed at the fridge,
Full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey
And buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots,
Beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling
So plump and so round,
'Til all of a sudden,
I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling,
Floating into the sky
With a mouthful of pudding
And a handful of pie.
But, I managed to yell
As I soared past the trees....
Happy eating to all -
Pass the cranberries, please.
May your stuffing be tasty,
May your turkey be plump.
May your potatoes 'n gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
May your pies take the prize,
May your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off of your thighs.
May your Thanksgiving be blessed!

Weather: It is 52 degrees at 9:00 this Thanksgiving morning.
Our sunshine has returned, so we can all give thanks for that! Highs
today in the mid-sixties,
lows in the low forties.
Farmer's Almanac Thanksgiving Forecast:
Turkeys will thaw in the morning, then warm in the oven to an afternoon
high near 190F. The kitchen will turn hot and humid, and if you bother
the cook, be ready for a severe squall or cold shoulder.
During the late afternoon and evening, the cold front of a knife will
slice through the turkey, causing an accumulation of one to two inches
on plates. Mashed potatoes will drift across one side while cranberry
sauce creates slippery spots on the other. Please pass the gravy.
A weight watch and indigestion warning have been issued for the entire
area, with increased stuffiness around the beltway. During the evening,
the turkey will diminish and taper off to leftovers, dropping to a low
of 34F in the refrigerator.
Looking ahead to Friday and Saturday, high pressure to eat sandwiches will
be established. Flurries of leftovers can be expected both days with a
50 percent chance of scattered soup late in the day. We expect a warming
trend where soup develops.

with lots of property owners here for the holiday. It seems every year
there are more and more visitors here as well. Perhaps Kiawah brings
out the thankfulness in people? The "Little Pig" will be running out
of Thanksgiving staples soon... Need Cool Whip for your pumpkin pie? -
better get over there quickly!

November 18, 2011 Week-end Weather
It is sunny on Kiawah this morning, but watch out!
The sunshine is deceptive, it's a bit chilly out there. First we have a few fabulous days of "convertible weather", then WHAM!
Mother Nature springs COLD upon us! What's up with that?
Astronomy 101:
The Leonid meteor shower should be visible tonight. The Leonid meteor shower will be
visible Saturday and Sunday night. As always, the meteors are best
viewed in the "early morning hours" (translate that to between 4:00 &
6:00 a.m.). Leftover dust and ice from Comet Tempel-Tuttle create the meteors. So grab a lawn chair and a really warm blanket, face east to
look for the constellation Leo, and start watching! You should be able to see 25 to 50 very swift meteors per hour.
Hoodie Happy Hour?
Hooded
mergansers, sometimes referred to as 'hoodies" are spotted
in ponds and lagoons all over Kiawah during this time of year. The brown ones are the females, while the ones with the black and white

The event is sponsored by the American Cancer Society as a smoke-free

November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.
With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.
The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.
