Kiawah is a bit overcast this morning, but patches of blue sky are still visible. If you have errands to run or playing to do, better get an early start in case it rains!

Are you a butterfly fan?  If so, now is a good time to make sure you have the best perennials ready to bloom this spring. If you want your butterfly garden to be alive with fluttering wings next year, dividing established perennials during autumn months is the easiest and quickest way to make them healthier. For more information on your butterfly garden, you can check the Butterfly Gardening Page

Did you know?  Butterflies taste with their feet!!! Via tiny receptors, a butterfly lands on a plant and tastes to see if it is the right kind of plant to lay its eggs on! What a relief that WE don't taste that way! J

Handsome lad Frequent site visitor Joe Zambito sends this photo.  He spotted this fellow near Glossy Ibis Drive.  Do you have a photo you would like to share? Click here to send it.

It is sunny and warm on Kiawah this morning. This is the kind of day that makes you realize what it is that you so love about Kiawah!  Could it be residual gratitude or appreciation from Thanksgiving?  It could be.  But then again, it could be that a gorgeous sunny day at the end of November is simply wonderful!  A day where you can wear shorts(!) outside while playing with your family and friends can just make you glad to be alive.  Enjoy your day!

Reminder: KICA sponsors a Meet the Town Candidates forum tonight at the Sandcastle from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. All members are invited to come early for a chance to mingle & meet your candidates for Kiawah Island Town Council. It is sunny and warm on Kiawah this morning. It looks like we have a terrific week in store, with loads of sunshine and warm weather.  December may arrive with a few showers, but for now, go outside and play!

The week-end was lovely and there were many people out & about who agreed.  Either there were an awful lot of athletic folks on the island, or everyone suddenly decided to work off their Thanksgiving calories!

November 23, 2006  ** Happy Thanksgiving **

Kiawah is cool and overcast this Thanksgiving morning. Here's hoping that you have many things to be thankful for! You could begin with...family, friends, the haystack color of the fall marsh, the azure blue of the creeks, phone calls from a distance, cold weather, baby showers, blooming sasanquas, your Thanksgiving Day feast... What are you thankful for?

Your Thanksgiving "Forecast":

Turkey Dinner

Turkeys will thaw in the morning, then warm in the oven to an afternoon high near 190F. The kitchen will turn hot and humid, and if you bother the cook, be ready for a severe squall or cold shoulder.

Steaming Turkey

During the late afternoon and evening, the cold front of a knife will slice through the turkey, causing an accumulation of one to two inches on plates. Mashed potatoes will drift across one side while cranberry sauce creates slippery spots on the other. Please pass the gravy.

Bright Sun

A weight watch and indigestion warning have been issued for the entire area, with increased stuffiness around the beltway. During the evening, the turkey will diminish and taper off to leftovers, dropping to a low of 34F in the refrigerator.

Dark Clouds

Looking ahead to Friday and Saturday, high pressure to eat sandwiches will be established. Flurries of leftovers can be expected both days with a 50 percent chance of scattered soup late in the day. We expect a warming trend where soup develops.

Weather: It is 46 degrees at 9:05 this morning. The high today will be near sixty, the low in the mid-forties.

** PLANT WATCH **

Today's Kiawah Critter Count: One red-tailed hawk, two raccoons, two foxes, three white-tailed deer, loads of snowy egrets on Sea Marsh Drive, and three double-crested cormorants.

November 22, 2006

Kiawah is cool and overcast again this morning, but at least there is no snow! Thanksgiving is nearly here, so everyone is probably busy gearing up for their particular Thanksgiving traditions - shopping, cleaning, cooking, making pies... Don't forget to take some time out for yourself to just enjoy the holiday and your friends and family.  If you are traveling for the holiday this week, please be careful out there!

A THANKSGIVING POEM

'Twas the night of Thanksgiving,

But I just couldn't sleep

I tried counting backwards,

I tried counting sheep.

The leftovers beckoned -

The dark meat and white

But I fought the temptation

With all of my might.

Tossing and turning

With anticipation

The thought of a snack

Became infatuation.

So, I raced to the kitchen,

Flung open the door

And gazed at the fridge,

Full of goodies galore.

I gobbled up turkey

And buttered potatoes,

Pickles and carrots,

Beans and tomatoes.

I felt myself swelling

So plump and so round,

'Til all of a sudden,

I rose off the ground.

I crashed through the ceiling,

Floating into the sky

With a mouthful of pudding

And a handful of pie.

But, I managed to yell

As I soared past the trees....

Happy eating to all -

Pass the cranberries, please.

May your stuffing be tasty,

May your turkey be plump.

May your potatoes 'n gravy

Have nary a lump.

May your yams be delicious

May your pies take the prize,

May your Thanksgiving dinner

Stay off of your thighs.

May your Thanksgiving be blessed!

IT IS SNOWING!  Yes, that's right, SNOWING.  Big, fat, fluffy flakes are falling right now.  It hasn't snowed on Kiawah for several years. Kiawah is warm but stormy this morning. It is quite a bit like Winnie the Pooh's Blustery Day.  The island was pummeled by thunderstorms late last night, and now there are leaves and palm fronds strewn about everywhere.  Not a bad day to read a good book if you have one.
