After expert testimony from Roger Warren, Resort, Tumiko Rucker, Town Administrator, and Jim Jordan, Town Biologist, the judge made his ruling. As a result, the Town is able to proceed as permitted by the appropriate agencies with the restoration work. The contractor anticipates completing the project by July 31st.

Kiawah is mostly cloudy this morning, as the showers from last night try to reassert themselves.  Things are thankfully calm right now, at least for a while. What will you do with today?

Mother Nature has certainly been catching us up on our rain. The storms were heavy - the wind blew leaves and branches everywhere. The lightning show was dazzling though, with bolts illuminating the night sky.  If there was anyone on the beach during the storm, they must have seen quite an amazing show!

More Turtle News: The Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol reports that we have 93 nests on Kiawah's beach as of June 24th.  Do you remember that in 2004 we had less than that for the entire summer?

Sunrise in Jurassic Park? Joe Zambito has named his photo of a Kiawah sunrise "Jurassic Park".  Would you agree? Do you have a photo you would like to share? Click here to send it.

Kiawah is mostly sunny this morning. Not much of a breeze to speak of, as the humidity has put a damper on the air.  The heat index inland is once again above 100 degrees, but we are lucky that the ocean keeps us cooler than that!

Have you noticed the unusually large number of anoles lately?  Generally 5 or 6 are spotted within the course of a week.  But recently, 3 or 4 have been spotted every day!  Many of them have been racing around, showing off their red throats for the lady anoles.

Island News: Banks Construction will be on the Island tonight from 8:00pm until 6:00am to finish cleaning up from the paving project. There may be some very minor impact on any traffic out during that time, but Banks will have traffic control personnel working to keep delays to an absolute minimum.

Weather: It is 83 degrees at 9:15 this morning. Whew! Already warm... Today's high near ninety, lows in the mid-seventies.

June 21, 2006

Kiawah is already warm this morning, and we are headed for the nineties. It seems appropriate that the first official day of summer be H-O-T!  If you go into Charleston, be prepared for a heat index above 100 degrees.  Stay cool out there!

Kiawah is sunny are beautiful again this morning.  Since Mother Nature is cooperating, why not visit somewhere on Kiawah that you may not have been to before?

The Marsh View Tower is often overlooked, but is a great place to catch a view of the Kiawah River.  It offers incredible views of the river, its mud flats, and the marsh.  It is located off Marsh Hawk Lane.  Why not go for a visit?  Be sure to take your camera!

Week-end Weather: It is 77 degrees at 9:15 Friday morning.  Luckily for us, it seems that it will be a beautiful summer week-end!  Highs Friday in the upper eighties, lows near seventy.  Saturday & Sunday will both be repeats, with highs in the upper eighties and lows near seventy.  See you on the beach!

Turtle News The Kiawah Island Turtle patrol reports that as of June 12th we had 60 nests on our beach! Last year at this time we had 47, so our mamas are busy.  Remember that you should never approach a nesting female - keep your distance and stay behind her so you don't spook her.

June 9, 2006 Week-end Edition

Kiawah is once again sunny and beautiful this morning. It is another lovely day in paradise! It will be quite warm, and the humidity is very high today.  Still, not too bad for June in South Carolina!

If you bike along Governor's Drive, you may have to do a little hiking.  There is a good deal of utility construction going on, so there are several places where the paths are blocked off with equipment.  Better be  prepared to walk your bike along the street for a bit.

Astronomical Events: The Full Strawberry Moon is Saturday. It's name was universal to every Algonquin tribe. However, in Europe they called it the Rose Moon. Also because the relatively short season for harvesting strawberries comes each year during the month of June . . . the full Moon that occurs during June was christened for the strawberry!

Another amazing Kiawah sunrise Kiawah certainly does provide some amazing sunrises.  Bob Struble captured this one on film. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Click here to send it.

Despite today's chance of showers, Kiawah is sunny and beautiful this morning.  The strong winds we received last night didn't cool things off much, if at all.  It looks like we are finally headed towards summer weather.  Get out those swimsuits and head to the beach!

Island News: Banks Construction will be working all night tonight to do the repairs on the inbound side of the Kiawah Island Parkway. They will also be doing curb cleanup etc. There will be one lane traffic at times, so please be careful out there!

The season is already bringing us many new flowers - the lantana and coral beans are blooming.  Folks with vegetable gardens are seeing the beginnings of the fruit of their labors.  Have you seen any blossoms today?

Coral Bean You may have noticed blooms like these around Kiawah.  It is our native plant, the coral bean.  Thanks to Marilyn Blizard for sharing this photo. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Click here to send it.

Kiawah is cloudy this morning.  A light drizzle has already fallen, but it wasn't enough to do much more than wet the ground.  There are no puddles to stomp through.  We are still fairly parched on the island, and could use more rain - though our visitors would likely prefer otherwise!

June 2, 2006 Week-end Edition

It is a lazy hazy June day on Kiawah. Still no showers, despite the nearly constant "20% chance".  After a while it is easy to ignore that, is it not? J So it looks like today will be another perfect day to get outside and play!

Kiawah is still wrapped in its coat of many colors - coral beans, the last blooms of magnolias, mimosas, gardenias, lantanas and more.

Week-end Weather: It is 77 degrees at 9:05 Friday morning. The chance of rain goes up throughout the week-end, so keep the umbrellas handy!  Friday should see a high in the low eighties with a 30% chance of showers, and a low in the low seventies with a 40% chance.  Saturday's weather will also be warm with an increased chance of showers.  The high should be in the low eighties and the low in the upper sixties, with a 60% chance of rain during the day and evening.  Kiawah is sunny and warm this morning.  We missed the rain yesterday - though there is another chance today. This morning is a marvelous start for June. Hopefully this bodes well for the remainder of the month as well. What does June have in store for you?

In June, as many as a dozen species may burst their buds on a single day. No man can heed all of these anniversaries; no man can ignore all of them.
