February 28, 2006

Kiawah is sunny and beautiful again this morning.  It is considerably warmer, and spring seems to be just around the corner!  Or perhaps March will do the "in like a lion, out like a lamb" thing?  Stay tuned...

Island News: KICA's Land Management staff is still doing  spring cleaning today. Today work will begin on the interior parkway, from the gate to the first Flyway intersection, as crews lay spring pine straw. Work will go on all week. There may be minimal traffic delays; so please allow adequate travel time.

Weather:  It is 55 degrees at 9:15 this morning. The high today is supposed to be in the low sixties.  Tonight's low should be in the low fifties.

Today's Kiawah Critter Count: Two American alligators, three hooded mergansers, one great blue heron, three double-crested cormorants,  and dozens of snowy egrets on Sea Marsh Drive.

February 27, 2006

Kiawah has more sunshine this morning, though it is a bit chilly outside.  It looks like you will have to bundle up for today's outdoor activities! 

It rained all day long Saturday, which brought us much cooler temperatures.  Sunday was lovely & sunny, but not very warm. The prevailing winds will switch from North to Southeast by late this afternoon though, so tomorrow is supposed to be near seventy degrees! 

Island News: KICA's Land Management staff begins spring cleaning today. They begin with the  rights-of-ways of the exterior parkway, from the main gate to the traffic circle. Work will be ongoing all week. There may be minimal traffic delays; so please allow adequate travel time.

Week-end Kiawah Critter Count: Spotted at various times & places around the island during the week-end: four American alligators, eleven hooded mergansers, five great blue herons, nine brown pelicans, four double-crested cormorants,  and dozens of snowy egrets on Sea Marsh Drive.

February 24, 2006 Week-end Edition

What is that big glowing orb in the sky?  SUNSHINE! Kiawah woke to the sun this morning, a nice change from the past several overcast mornings.   Why is it so much easier to get up when the sun is shining? J

Week-end Weather:  It is 55 degrees at 9:15 Friday morning. Temperatures Friday are supposed to hit a high in the mid-sixties and a low in the upper forties.  There is a 20% chance of rain Friday night.  Saturday brings an increased chance of showers, with a high near sixty and a 70% chance of rain.  Saturday night should be in the low forties with a 50% chance of showers.  Last but not least, Sunday is supposed to have a high in the low fifties, but a low in the upper twenties.  Let's see that again?!?  The low Sunday night will be in the upper twenties.  ** PLANT WATCH **

February 23, 2006

Once more we awoke to a gray, dreary, drizzly morning on Kiawah.  The sun did make a brief appearance yesterday, but alas, it did not stick around long enough to warm things up.  A light rain is expected for part of today, so locate your umbrella!

Weather:  It is 61 degrees at 9:15 this morning. The high today is supposed to be in the mid-sixties with a 50% chance of showers. Tonight's low should be in the low forties.

February 22, 2006

We have more cloudy skies on Kiawah this morning. Still, we will take a few clouds and a little rain over S-N-O-W any day!

Weather:  It is 60 degrees at 9:15 this morning. Today's high should be in the low sixties. The low tonight is supposed to be in the low fifties. There is a 50% chance of rain both today and tonight.

February 21, 2006

Kiawah is overcast again this morning, but a bit warmer. The weather forecasters mention no chance of rain, but then why is it raining now?  Hmmm...

Weather:  It is 54 degrees at 9:10 this morning. The high today is supposed to be in the upper fifties. Tonight's low should be in the upper forties with a slight chance of rain after midnight. 

Today's Kiawah Critter Count: Three bottle-nosed dolphins, two white-tailed deer, one American alligator, one great blue heron, three double-crested cormorants,  and dozens of snowy egrets on Sea Marsh Drive.

February 20, 2006

It is overcast on Kiawah this morning, with just a slight chill in the air. Looks like galoshes & umbrellas are the accessories for today.

The week-end was much better than anticipated, as Saturday's promised showers did not show up until late evening.  Everyone had plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures to go outside & play Saturday.  Sunday remained sunny, but was far cooler after Saturday evening's rain.

February 17, 2006 Week-end Edition

Kiawah is sunny again this morning, with more warm weather. Today will be a fabulous day to do anything outside.  The golf and tennis courses will no doubt be brimming with players today.  Better get those games in today though, as the week-end looks warm but soggy.

Week-end Weather:  It is 57 degrees at 9:20 Friday morning. The high Friday is supposed to be in the mid-sixties. The low should be near fifty with a 20% chance of showers.  Saturday also appears to be on the damp side, with a high in the mid-fifties and a 50% chance of rain all day & into the evening.  The low Saturday night is supposed to be in the low forties.  The chance of showers drops to 40% Sunday, with highs in the low fifties and lows in the low forties.

Today's Kiawah Critter Count: One raccoon, three white-tailed deer, one American alligator, five brown pelicans, two double-crested cormorants, two great blue herons, and dozens of snowy egrets on Sea Marsh Drive.

February 16, 2006

There is more sunshine on Kiawah this morning, and it is warmer still! This is perfect weather for getting outside to play. Whether your choice is golf, tennis, running, biking, walking or rollerblading, JUST DO IT! 

Weather:  It is 54 degrees at 9:15 this morning. The high today should be in the lower sixties. Tonight's low is supposed to be in the mid-fifties.

Kiawah warm again this morning, with even better weather on the way. The forecasters are predicting seventies by the end of the week! J

Kiawah is just a bit warmer this morning than it was yesterday.  Guess it is Mother Nature's Valentine's present to all of us!

February 13, 2006

Brrrrr!  Heaters all over Kiawah are running full force this morning, as a cold front pushes cold air across the island.  Hopefully our northern readers are recovering from the Nor'easter that pummeled New York and Boston with more than two feet of snow.  Stay warm and safe everyone!

Weather:  It is 28 degrees at 8:00 this morning. Today's high is supposed t o be in the upper forties. The low tonight should be in the lower thirties.

February 10, 2006  Week-end Edition

It is the week-end!  And whether it currently seems apparent or not, we are slowly, inexorably headed towards spring!  The daylight today will hang around for 10 hours and 53 minutes, but tomorrow will be one minute and 47 seconds longer.  More and more daylight is a very good thing! Will you be out & about to enjoy the week-end?

Did you know?  On February 10, 1861, Jefferson Davis received word that he had been selected president of the new Confederate States of America.

Week-end Weather:  It is 36 degrees at 7:00 Friday morning. The high Friday should be in the upper fifties. The low is supposed to be in the mid-forties. There is a 40% chance of rain after midnight. Saturday should bring highs in the upper fifties with a 60% chance of showers.  The low is supposed to be in the lower thirties.   Low fifties should be the order of the day on Sunday, with lows in the low thirties.

Even during this cooler weather, there are many things to see and do on Kiawah.  If bicycling is your thing, why not head over to one of the three marsh towers to enjoy the view?  Or perhaps you have not seen Kiawah's Swamp Garden over by Sparrow Pond cottages?  All are terrific destinations for a bike ride.

   Did you know? Today is the anniversary of the British Invasion. In 1964 the Beatles made their first live television appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show".

Weather:  It is 38 degrees at 7:00 this morning. The high today is supposed to be in the low fifties. Tonight's low should be in the mid-thirties.

February 8, 2006

Kiawah should be slightly warmer today than yesterday.  Let us hope so! At least it is not supposed to rain today, so hopefully you will be able to get outside without toting an umbrella.

There were some mighty cold critters on the island last night - humans included! Marsh Island Drive's resident raccoon was huddled in her oak tree trying to stay warm.    

Weather:  It is 34 degrees at 7:00 this morning. Today's high should be in the upper fifties. The low tonight is supposed to be in the mid-thirties.

More rain is on the horizon for Kiawah today.  Coupled with the cooler temperatures, it seems Mother Nature really has pushed winter our way.  What are you doing to stave off the cold?

Kiawah is partly cloudy this morning.   The weather man says it will get progressively cloudier as the day goes on -  it seems that rain is headed our way.  Better be prepared!  We may not have warm weather right now, but there are still plenty of sights and sounds to enjoy.  As the photo above shows, Kiawah's sunsets are usually well worth a stare!

Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers (and their fans!) on their Super Bowl win Sunday!

February 3, 2006 Week-end Edition

Kiawah is overcast again this morning. Showers rolled in Thursday evening, and though they have stopped for the moment, Kiawah is drenched!  Warm, but drenched.  Here's hoping you manage to stay dry this week-end...

Weather:  It is 61 degrees at 10:00 Friday morning. The high today is supposed to be near seventy with a 30% chance of thundershowers. The low should be in the upper fifties.   Saturday should bring a high in the mid-sixties with a 40% chance of showers.  Lows in the mid-thirties during the night.  Last but not least, Sunday is supposed to see highs in the mid-fifties and lows in the mid-thirties.

February 2, 2006

Kiawah was overcast this morning, but that's good for Groundhog Day, right?  No shadows on the island early this morning!  The sun is peeking out now though, so we should have another lovely day on Kiawah.

Happy Groundhog Day!  Only in the United States would we "trust" our weather predictions to a groundhog. J Incidentally, Punxsutawney Phil came out of his hideout in Gobblers Knob, Pennsylvania and predicted six more weeks of winter. February 1, 2006

Kiawah is covered in sunshine again this morning, but still a wee bit nippy.  Looks like another fabulous day on the island, and a terrific start to February!

Yesterday's meeting about the erosion on Kiawah's beach was so well attended that folks were spilled out the doors at Town Hall.  Great job to everyone who took the time to attend.

Weather:  It is 49 degrees at 9:45 this morning. The high today is supposed to be in the upper fifties. Tonight's low should be near fifty.
