It is sunny on Kiawah this morning, and we are back to
cooler weather. Not good news for those of us who plan to
exercise to work off the Thanksgiving calories!
Full Moon: The Full Beaver
Moon will be Saturday night. This moon is named for trapping
time for the Indians. Now was the time to set beaver traps
before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs.
Another interpretation suggests that the name Full Beaver Moon comes
from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter.
It is sometimes also referred to as the Frosty Moon.
Week-end Weather: It is 48 degrees at
8:00

Happy Thanksgiving!

Kiawah is a bit overcast this morning, but every now
and then the sunshine tries to peep through the clouds. There
should be lots of happy pilgrims today playing outside and working off
that huge dinner!
A THANKSGIVING POEM
'Twas the night of Thanksgiving,
But I just couldn't sleep
I tried counting backwards,
I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned -
The dark meat and white
But I fought the temptation
With all of my might.
Tossing and turning
With anticipation
The thought of a snack
Became infatuation.
So, I raced to the kitchen,
Flung open the door
And gazed at the fridge,
Full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey
And buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots,
Beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling
So plump and so round,
'Til all of a sudden,
I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling,
Floating into the sky
With a mouthful of pudding
And a handful of pie.
But, I managed to yell
As I soared past the trees....
Happy eating to all -
Pass the cranberries, please.
May your stuffing be tasty,
May your turkey be plump.
May your potatoes 'n gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
May your pies take the prize,
May your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off of your thighs.
May your Thanksgiving be blessed!

Kiawah is beautiful and sunny this morning, but watch
out! The sunshine is deceptive, it's a bit chilly out there.
First we have a few fabulous days of "convertible weather", then WHAM!
Mother Nature springs COLD upon us! What's up with that?
Don't Forget: Saturday KICA sponsors a Pet Adoption
Fair from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm at Night Heron Park. This event
will feature organizations representing both dogs and cats. All
proceeds will be shared between the organizations, which are in need
of funding for medical care, proper nutrition and housing.

Astronomy 101: The Leonid meteor shower will be
visible Saturday and Sunday night. As always, the meteors are best
viewed in the "early morning hours" (translate that to between 4:00 &
6:00 a.m.). Leftover dust and ice from Comet Tempel-Tuttle create the
meteors. So grab a lawn chair and a really warm blanket, face east to
look for the constellation Leo, and start watching! You should be able
to see 25 to 50 very swift meteors per hour.
Week-end Weather: It is 44 degrees at 9:05

November 2, 2007 Week-end Edition
Kiawah is finally seeing a little sunshine this morning
after several days of overcast skies. While Kiawah does not celebrate
fall with the orange and browns of the northern climes, it does have a
distinct fall palette. The sweet grass and groundsel, goldenrod and
marsh grass, all contribute their unique colors to the fall landscape.
What colors have you noticed on Kiawah this fall?
Week-end Weather: It is 60 degrees at 9:00 Friday morning.
We can expect very cool temperatures this week-end. Highs Friday near
seventy, lows in the upper
forties. That is NOT a typo! Upper forties... brrr...
Saturday is supposed to bring a high in the upper sixties and a low in
the mid-forties. It will be no warmer Sunday, with a high near

It is overcast on Kiawah this morning. Do you think
that the gray skies are a fitting beginning for November?
November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.
With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.
The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.
