It is partly cloudy on Kiawah this morning. May is winding down with warm weather and a some clouds, though it is not supposed to rain. 

Have you seen people riding around in golf carts WITHOUT clubs?  Do they stop frequently, strolling into backyards?  If you have seen folks like these, you have witnessed Kiawah's Bird House Team in action!  The team is in full gear now, checking bird houses on Kiawah's golf courses, and tracking the birds and their young. Be sure to wave hello the next time you see them!

Weather: It is 76 degrees at 8:55 this morning. Highs today in the low eighties, lows in the upper sixties.

Kiawah is sunny and warm this morning. To quote Mr. Rogers, "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood!"

Have you ever stopped to listen to the song of a Carolina wren?  It is quite lovely. Despite their diminutive size, they have voices like Ethel Merman!

Weather: It is 75 degrees at 9:05 this morning. Today should be a bit warmer than recent days, with a high in the low eighties. Tonight's low should be near seventy.

It is sunny with just a slight breeze on Kiawah this morning.  Things are getting a little quieter on the island as folks head back home from the Senior PGA Tournament and the Memorial Day holiday week-end.  But summer is nearly here, and more visitors are on the way!

Turtle News: Eight nests had been laid on Kiawah as of May 27th.  Go mama loggerheads!  Remember: lights out for sea turtles!

Weather: It is 78 degrees at 9:00 this morning. We should have a repeat of yesterday's weather today. Highs near eighty, lows in the upper sixties.

May 28, 2007 ** Memorial Day **

Kiawah is sunny and gorgeous again this morning.  This is the kind of weather that you don't mind repeating day after day!

While you are enjoying your Memorial Day, why not take some time to honor and remember the men & women serving in our military?

Weather: It is 78 degrees at 9:00 this morning. It's nearly summer, but the weather is holding on to spring. Highs today near eighty, lows in the upper sixties.

It is another sunny gorgeous morning on Kiawah.  The winds of yesterday have died down quite a bit, making the beach much more pleasant.  The Ocean Course should be a bit more pleasant for the players too!

Today is the second day of the Senior PGA tournament. The schedule for television coverage of the event is:

◦ Friday, May 25: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., USA

Saturday, May 26: 3:00 - 6:00 p.m, NBC

Sunday, May 27: 3:00 - 6:00 p.m., NBC

Week-end Weather: It is 64 degrees at 7:30 this morning.  A perfect Kiawah week-end is in store for us!  Friday's high should be near eighty, the low in the mid-sixties.  And guess what?  Both Saturday and Sunday will be more of the same, with highs in the low eighties and lows in the mid-sixties.  In short... PERFECT!

May 24, 2007

Kiawah is its usual sunny self this morning.  We have a slight breeze on the island, but a high surf advisory off shore.

Today is the first official day of the Senior PGA tournament. the crowds are expected to be much larger, so please allow extra time when driving, as there may be traffic as well.

Weather: It is 74 degrees at 9:05 this morning. Today should be mostly a repeat of yesterday, though there is a 20% chance of rain during the day as well as the evening.  Highs today in the mid-seventies, lows in the mid-sixties.

It is partly cloudy on Kiawah this morning. Though there are a few clouds in the sky, the weather should still be perfect for folks attending the practice round of the Senior PGA today. Yesterday's attendance was good, but the Ocean Course was not at all crowded.

Kiawah is off to a fabulous sunny start this morning. Mother Nature is showing her best for the start of the Senior PGA Tournament.  The weather should be absolutely perfect - don't forget your sunscreen!

It is another gorgeous sunny day on Kiawah!  Things are really hopping on the island now, as folks stream in to attend the Senior PGA Tournament.  Many of your friends and neighbors are volunteering for it, so be sure to watch for them on television! May 18, 2007 Week-end Edition

Kiawah is sunny and cool this morning, just in time for the week-end!

** Breaking News **

There was a gas explosion at the new Ocean Course club house at 10:00 a.m. this morning that injured 4 people.  Roger Warren said the damage was contained to the kitchen area & will not delay the opening of the club house.  See the Links of Interest section below for a related story in the Post & Courier.

Island News: The Charleston Symphony Orchestra Performance that was scheduled for Thursday, May 17, 2007 has been moved to the rain date. The performance will be held on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Freshfields Village. Head over for a delightful evening of light Classical music and Boston Pop tunes. Be sure to bring lawn chairs or a blanket.

Loggerhead Sea Turtle It is sea turtle nest time on Kiawah. The first mama made an appearance on May 16th - just after Mother's Day.  Appropriate, don't you think? 

Week-end Weather: It is 66 degrees at 8:55 this morning, and we have an amazing week-end on the way! Highs Friday in the mid-seventies, lows in the mid-fifties.  Saturday's temperatures should be in the mid-seventies again during the day, while the evening is supposed to be in the upper fifties.  It will be just a tad warmer on Sunday, with a high near eighty.  Lows Sunday night in the upper fifties.  Can you say perfect weather?

May 17, 2007

It is overcast on Kiawah this morning, with just a hint of rain in the air.  It does not appear that today will be the best of days to be a beach-goer!

The little raccoon living in the live oak on Marsh Island Drive is awake this morning.  She (?) is peering out the "front door" of her chosen home - it is a small hole that she can use as both a window and a door. Last spring she and her three babies could often be seen peeking at the world from the oak tree - hopefully this spring will be no different!  

Turtle News: The first loggerhead sea turtle nest was laid on Kiawah this morning!  Turtle season has officially begun.  Please remember to keep those beach lights shielded after dark to help our turtles.  Sea turtles dig the dark!

Weather: It is 74 degrees at 9:05 this morning.  We have a 40% chance of rain both today & tonight, so get out the umbrellas, just in case!  The high is supposed to be in the mid-seventies today.  Tonight's low should be in the upper  fifties.

May 16, 2007

Kiawah is sunny with just a slight breeze this morning. Things are sprouting all over the island, not all of them plants!  Signs are going up for next week's Senior PGA Tournament, parking lots are being readied, and volunteer training sessions are taking place.  Are you volunteering or attending the golf tournament?

Turtle News: The first loggerhead sea turtle nest was laid on Kiawah this morning!  Turtle season has officially begun.  Please remember to keep those beach lights shielded after dark to help our turtles.  Sea turtles dig the dark!

Weather: It is 74 degrees at 9:05 this morning.  Highs today near eighty, bringing another near perfect day on the island! Tonight's low should be in the mid-sixties, with a 30% chance of showers.

May 15, 2007

It is beautiful and sunny this morning, another lovely day on Kiawah! The sunshine is bathing everything with a golden glow.  Spanish moss is swaying slowly in the breeze, and the birds are all a-twitter.

The raccoon that lives in the old oak tree is peeking out at the world this morning.  There are definitely babies in there, as evidenced by the odd little "squeaky" noises that issue from the tree after dusk.  What critters have you seen lately?

It is sunny and cool on Kiawah this morning. Today looks to be marvelous, with balmy temperatures during the day and night. The weather is just perfect for walking, biking, riding, playing golf or tennis, rollerblading... what will you do outside today?

Don't Forget:  Postage goes up to 41¢ today, so your 39¢ stamps need company on those envelopes!

May 11, 2007 Week-end Edition

Kiawah is shiny this morning. Yes, SHINY!  After finally receiving a little rain, the sunshine is illuminating Kiawah's flowers and plants without pollen all over them.  Everything just looks, well... SHINY!

Don't Forget: Sunday is Mother's Day.  Do something nice for the Moms in your life!

It is sunny on Kiawah this morning. It looks like we are headed into a nice warm week-end with just a slight chance of rain.  It should be a lovely week-end to take Mom out to dinner for Mother's Day!

Kiawah is sunny and cloudy by turns this morning, as yesterday's storm continues. We finally received some real rain rather than the brief sprinkles we had been getting. Though beachgoers will probably not agree, the rain has been welcome.

It is sunny on Kiawah this morning, a good day to go exploring. Kildeer Pond and the Nature Trail in The Preserve are quite beautiful today. If you have not ever visited there, take a little trip over and walk on the trails. There are birds galore on Kildeer Pond, and you may even be fortunate enough to see a wood stork or if you are VERY quiet, a bobcat! A marsh tower is tucked away in a little corner, and it has fabulous views of the marsh. Are you adventurous enough to go find it?

Kiawah is sunny this morning, with strong breezes blowing across the island.  The winds began late Sunday, and have continued ever since, bringing us one last blast of cool weather.

Weather: It is 56 degrees at 9:20 this morning. It should be nice but extremely windy today. Highs near seventy, lows in the low fifties.

May 4, 2007 Week-end Edition

It is cloudy on Kiawah this morning, and we just might FINALLY receive some rain. Be on the lookout for a possible thunderstorm this afternoon...

Island News #1: Don't forget to grab your gear and head out to Kiawah's ponds & lakes Saturday. It's the first ever KICA fishing tournament. Please click here for more information. Even if you do not fish, drag out the camera and support your neighbors. There are sure to be some wild fish stories after this one!

Island News #2: Episode five of Spring Watch U.S.A. featuring Kiawah will be shown on Animal Planet Saturday at 8:00 p.m. with repeats at 11:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. Sunday.

Week-end Weather: It is 72 degrees at 9:00 this morning. Highs Friday near eighty, lows in the low sixties. There is a 20% chance of showers during both the daytime and evening. It should be slightly cooler on Saturday, with a 40% chance of rain all day & evening. Highs are supposed to be in the upper seventies, lows in the low sixties. Sunday still carries the 40% chance of showers during the day, along with a high in the mid-seventies.  The chance drops to 20% Sunday evening, with lows in the upper fifties.

Kiawah is a bit overcast this morning. It certainly looks like rain outside, and a shower would be terrific!  Unfortunately it is not supposed to rain today, though we could really use some.

It is sunny with just a slight breeze on Kiawah this morning. 

Things are really starting to gear up for the Senior PGA golf tournament which begins in just three weeks. Volunteers have picked up their uniforms and have started training.  Some of the golfers have visited the Ocean Course, looking for some edge over that wind off the water!

Kiawah is sunny with the barest touch of a breeze this morning. April is gone, and now we have fair May in our sights.

There are many stories about how the month of May was named. The most widely accepted explanation is that it was named for Maia, the Roman goddess of spring and growth. The name related to a Latin word that means increase or growth.

Weather: It is 74 degrees at 9:00 this morning. We have yet another amazing day in store, with a high in the mid-eighties today, and a low in the mid-sixties tonight.
