Kiawah is sunny and...beautiful this morning.  Thought it would say 'warm' didn't you? It is not warm, unless you are comparing our island temperatures to those in the frigid north.

The sunset last night was amazing - there were plum-colored clouds at the edge of the horizon, with a variety of pinks and pale oranges fanning out on top of them.  Kiawah is fortunate to have some of the most wonderful sunrises and sunsets...have you treated yourself to one lately?

Kiawah Eagles: A kayak expedition over the week-end spotted two adult bald eagles feeding two young.  Four bald eagles now call Kiawah home!  Have you seen a bald eagle on Kiawah?

Weather: It is 39 degrees at 9:05 this morning.  It will be a chilly day, as highs reach into the upper forties, and lows drop into the upper thirties.

Today's Kiawah Critter Count: Two cardinals, one blue jay, two white-tailed deer, two double-crested cormorants, and dozens of snowy egrets.

Kiawah is mostly overcast this morning, and the clouds are supposed to hang around most of the day. These cooler temperatures have spawned odd "decorations" at many houses - sheets and blankets! Folks all over the island have been trying to protect their delicate plants by covering them each night. Thankfully we don't have to do that for very long, as Kiawah generally warms up by the end of February.

It is sunny on Kiawah this morning, but COLD! The weather channel says the wind chill is 10 degrees - WHOA!  After giving us warm weather for most of January and keeping winter at bay, Mother Nature has finally sent Old Man Winter to the Lowcountry.  Baby it's cold outside!

January 26, 2007  Week-end Edition

Kiawah has sunshine this morning, but it is rather chilly. The beginning of our week-end should be very pleasant, with highs near sixty on Saturday. But keep those woolies nearby - by Sunday night it will be cold again. Maybe we will get a reward for experiencing the cooler weather?  A hard freeze that will kill the mosquitoes and such?  We can only hope...

It is overcast on Kiawah this morning, back to winter gray rather than bright sunshine. Though our sunshine has temporarily disappeared, it should be clearer this afternoon.  Still, it will be warm enough to enjoy some "outdoor time", so that is something to celebrate!

Kiawah is cloudy again this morning, but at least we have no rain this time. The sun should be peeking out this afternoon, though it won't warm things up very much.

Kiawah's bald eagles have been spotted a few times recently, and from their behavior, it seems there is a wee eagle hunkered down in the nest.  Be on the lookout!

January 18, 2007

It is drizzly and overcast on Kiawah this morning.  Ick.  Let's see if we have this correct - after a week of unseasonably warm and wonderful temperatures, we are now faced with cold, windy, and wet. Does that sound about right? Today's high will be below the normal high for January.  But at least we won't be shoveling any snow! J

Weather: It is 40 degrees at 9:05 this morning.  The chance of showers today is nearly 100%.   The high is supposed to be in the mid-forties, and so is the low! There is a 20% chance of rain this evening.

Kiawah is overcast this morning, and very breezy.  This is quite a change from the past week or so...  We received some brief showers last night, with winds whipping through the trees across the island.  There are plenty of palm fronds and leaves as evidence.  Guess it is time for winter!  Are you ready?

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

January 9, 2007

Kiawah is sunny this morning, but not terribly warm. Mother Nature has brought us temperatures that are more like our normal January, though it will warm up a bit by the end of the week.  Still, can we really complain about 60 degrees in January?

Weather: It is 44 degrees at 9:05 this morning. Can you believe it?  That is a 20 degree change from yesterday morning! Brrrrrrr... Today's high should be in the low sixties. The low tonight is supposed to be in the mid-thirties.

It is overcast on Kiawah this morning, but quite warm.   It doesn't look like too many golf or tennis games will take place this morning, as showers work their way down the coast.

Did you know? The Quadrantids meteor shower will strut it's stuff tonight. The best viewing time is 4 to 6 a.m. If you head outside and look to the Northeast, you should see 60 to 120 medium speed meteors per hour. The best place on Kiawah to watch for meteors is the beach because of the unobstructed view of the sky. So arrange a few chairs or some other comfortable rest, dress warmly, take a blanket and enjoy!

Weather: It is 65 degrees at 9:10 this morning. What a change - warm weather has reared its head on Kiawah again! Today's highs should be in the low seventies, with a 60% chance of showers.  Lows tonight in the lower sixties, with the chance of rain dropping to 20%.

January 3, 2007

Kiawah is mostly sunny this morning. It is a bit chilly when you walk outside, but you could easily do your morning walk in a sweatshirt.  Isn't this why we all love living in South Carolina?  Who says it is winter?

Weather: It is 52 degrees at 9:00 this morning. Though a tad cool, today will be a terrific day to get outside and play! Highs in the low sixties and lows in the mid-fifties.

January 2, 2007

It is cool and breezy on Kiawah this morning. Though it is sweater weather, we should have a lovely day to enjoy the outdoors! Perhaps a bicycle ride to find your own personal sunset this evening?
