Chickadees and cardinals, robins and wrens, Kiawah's bird population thinks it is spring already!  Take a look around today. Have you noticed that there seem to be hundreds of birds out and about now?

Weather: It is 49 degrees at 8:15 a.m. this morning. Highs today in the mid sixties, lows tonight in the mid forties.

   Today's Kiawah Critter Count: Three female white-tailed deer, one raccoon, four brown pelicans, two double-crested cormorants, three great blue herons, and dozens of snowy egrets on Sea Marsh Drive.

We have another lovely morning on Kiawah this morning.  The sunshine is contagious, spreading smiles to everyone you see.  If you look closely you can see buds on the tips of the plants and trees.  Can spring be far behind?

Weather: It is 56 degrees at 6:30 this morning. Today's high temperature should reach 66, the low is supposed to be in the upper forties.

Weekend Weather: It is 41 degrees at 6:30 a.m. Friday morning. Highs today in the lower sixties, the low tonight will be 39. Saturday's high should be 61, the low Saturday night in the high forties. Last but not least, Sunday should bring highs in the low sixties, and lows in the low forties, with a 40% chance or rain.

Someone reported that while driving down the Kiawah Island Parkway last night, a fox darted out from the trees and skirted the edge of the road.  Everyone, PLEASE be careful driving, especially near dawn and dusk.  Kiawah's critters will thank you!

Weather: It is 54 degrees at 6:30 a.m. this morning. The high temperature for today is 69. Lows tonight should be in the mid-forties.

Look at today's picture and pretend that you are driving up Main Road on your way to Kiawah - the road dappled with sunshine, birds serenading you as you drive through the live oaks and hanging Spanish moss.  Isn't life good?

Weather: It is 59 and cloudy at 6:30 this morning. Today's high temperature should reach 65, the low is supposed to be in the low fifties.  There is a 60% chance of rain with a possibility of thunderstorms.

Kiawah Critter Count: Twelve American robins, one American alligator, seven brown pelicans, two male cardinals, three double-crested cormorants, three snowy egrets, and two great blue herons.

It is another beautiful day on the island. Today will be a perfect day to get outside and enjoy this wonderful (almost) spring weather.

Weather: It is 45 degrees at 6:30a.m. this morning. The High today will be 65, with a low tonight of 45. We will have partly cloudy skies with a chance of rain moving in tonight.

February 19, 2007

One of "our" raccoons stopped by last night to say hello.  Apparently she was out enjoying the cooler temperatures.  She is a cute little raccoon, with "eyeliner" around her eyes and a tiny black spot on her forehead. Have you ever noticed that each raccoon's face is different?

Weather: It is 28 degrees at 7:30 a.m. this morning.  Highs today will reach the mid-fifties, lows in the mid-thirties.  It is sunny and cool.

Week-end Kiawah Critter Count: Spotted at various times & places around Kiawah during the weekend:  One bald eagle,  Kiawah's eaglet, four brown pelicans, dozens of snowy egrets at the pond on Sea Marsh, one great blue heron, seven double-crested cormorants, and three raccoons.

February 16, 2007 Week-end Edition

Kiawah is gorgeous and sunny this morning.  It isn't very warm though, boo hoo!  We have really had a mild winter so far, but tonight we should get a taste of some below freezing temperatures.  Brrrr... Didn't Punxsutawney Phil up in Pennsylvania predict an early spring?

Week-end Weather: It is 40 degrees at 9:05 Friday morning.  Highs Friday in the upper forties, lows in the low thirties. It should be a tad warmer Saturday, with highs in the mid-fifties, lows in the upper thirties. Highs Sunday in the lower fifties, lows in the low thirties.  We have a ** PLANT WATCH ** all week-end, so better cover those delicate plants!

It is partly cloudy on Kiawah this morning, and cold! Compared to yesterday, there was a 20 degree difference in this morning's temperature.  YIKES!  Hope everyone is bundled up today!

Weather: It is 35 degrees at 9:05 this morning.  After our warm windy Valentine's Day it will be much cooler today.  Highs in the upper forties, lows in the low thirties.

February 14, 2007 Y Happy Valentine's Day!  Y

Kiawah is mostly sunny this morning, just in time for Valentine's Day! Why not head out with your sweetie for a day of pampering. If you don't have a sweetie, why not pamper yourself? You deserve it! Hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day! 

Weather: It is 57 degrees at 9:00 this morning.  Sunshine should be the order of the day, with highs in the low sixties, lows in the mid-thirties.  ** PLANT WATCH **

It is overcast but warm on Kiawah this morning. Our Northern cousins are buried under inches of snow - feet of snow in some cases!  Is this one of the reasons you live in South Carolina?

Weather: It is 61 degrees at 9:05 this morning.  It will be warm but probably rainy today. Highs near seventy, lows in the low fifties, both with a 70% chance of rain.

Today's Kiawah Critter Count: A pair of foxes seen in the marsh near 10 Airy Hall by the Borgantis, seven yellow-rumped warblers, one raccoon, one American alligator, two double-crested cormorants, and dozens of snowy egrets.

February 12, 2007

Kiawah is mostly cloudy this morning, but fairly warm. It should be a wonderful day to be outside. How often do you get to experience 70 degrees in the midst of winter?

Weather: It is 53 degrees at 9:15 this morning.  Though it is a bit cloudy, it should be a pleasant day - highs in the mid-sixties, lows in the mid-fifties tonight with a 30% chance of showers.

Week-end Kiawah Critter Count: Spotted at various times & places around the island: a couple dozen yellow-rumped warblers, three raccoons, two American alligators, one marsh hawk, two foxes, six brown pelicans, four great blue herons, thirteen double-crested cormorants, and dozens of snowy egrets.

February 9, 2007 Week-end Edition

It is sunny on Kiawah this morning. Looks like we have yet another amazing day to enjoy, and the week-end doesn't look too bad either... What are your plans? Biking? Golf? Tennis? Walking on the beach?  Whatever you choose, ENJOY!  

  If you are looking for Something Fun To Do Today, don't forget the Lowcountry Blues Bash! There are loads of terrific performers all over Charleston for the 10 days, many of them free!

Week-end Weather: It is 45 degrees at 9:15 Friday morning.  We are headed for the upper fifties today!  Another fabulous February day...to be followed by a cold winter's night.  Lows tonight in the mid-thirties with a 30% chance of precipitation.  Saturday should start off cloudy, but should reach a high in the mid-fifties.  Lows Saturday night in the mid-thirties.  ** PLANT WATCH **  It should be slightly warmer Sunday, with highs in the upper fifties, lows in the upper thirties. ** PLANT WATCH **

February 8, 2007

Kiawah is sunny again this morning, and still decently warm.  It will be slightly cooler than yesterday, but we can't complain! 

Yesterday was a fabulous day in the Lowcountry.  What a wonderful treat to have a warm sunny day in the midst of winter.  There were even folks driving around with their convertible tops down! Many people spent time enjoying the weather and playing outside

Weather: It is 45 degrees at 9:05 this morning.  We are back to normal February temperatures, with a high in the mid-fifties and a low tonight near forty.

It is sunny on Kiawah this morning, and it is actually warm outside. Are you shocked?  We are headed to the mid-sixties today, so enjoy it while you can!  See you on the beach? 

Weather: It is 50 degrees at 9:05 this morning.  No doubt everyone is wondering what is going on with this morning's temperatures!  Nearly a 20 degree change in 24 hours... Highs today in the mid-sixties! Lows tonight in the low forties.

February 6, 2007

Kiawah is sunny this morning, but once again it is cold by island standards. Of course we ARE in the middle of winter, so we can't complain. 

Mark your calendars!  The Annual KICA Meeting will take place Sunday, March 18th.  In addition to the meeting, there will be loads of activities for everyone during the week-end - including the "Celebrate Kiawah" event at the River Course on March 17th from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

February 5, 2007

It is sunny on Kiawah this morning, but just a wee bit C-O-L-D!  When it is this cold out, the pelicans certainly seem to spend a lot of time inside - the island! They are floating around by the dozens on the various lagoons and ponds. Guess the water at the beach is too cold for them too!

Mark your calendars!  The Annual KICA Meeting will take place Sunday, March 18th.  In addition to the meeting, there will be loads of activities for everyone during the week-end - including the "Celebrate Kiawah" event at the River Course on March 17th from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m..

February 2, 2007 Week-end Edition

Kiawah is cloudy again this morning. But on this day of all days, that is a GOOD thing. After all, it IS Groundhog Day!  A Kiawah groundhog "Kiawah Coon", could not have seen its shadow this morning - guess this means that Kiawah will only have four more weeks of winter!" Punxsutawney Phil" up in Pennsylvania did not see his shadow this morning either, and also predicted an early spring.

Irish Week-end: The Town of Kiawah Island's Arts Council is sponsoring an Irish Week-end starting today.  So head on over to The Sanctuary and watch some dancing or sample some Irish beer or whiskey.  Click here for more information.

Week-end Weather: It is 45 degrees at 9:10 Friday morning.  Things are drying out on Kiawah, and we should be headed into a dry week-end.  Friday's high is supposed to reach the mid-sixties. The warmer weather continues into Saturday, with a high in the mid-fifties, and a low in the upper thirties. Sunday cools down a bit for Super Bowl watching. Highs in the low fifties, lows in the low thirties.

Today's Kiawah Critter Count: Kiawah's critters were drenched yesterday, and not many were out & about - three hooded mergansers, one great blue heron, one fox, one white-tailed deer, two double-crested cormorants, and dozens of snowy egrets.  

February 1, 2007

It is overcast on Kiawah this morning. Though it is a bit warmer, heavy rain is on the way, so get out the umbrella. Still, temperatures in the upper fifties is not a bad way to begin the month of February, is it?   

Weather: It is 46 degrees at 9:15 this morning.  It should be slightly warmer today, with a high in the upper fifties. But look out for the rain!  There is a 90% chance today. There is a 100% chance of showers tonight, with the low in the mid-fifties.  

Today's Kiawah Critter Count:

Seven hooded mergansers, three great blue herons, one fox, one white-tailed deer, four double-crested cormorants, and dozens of snowy egrets.
