Kiawah is sunny again this morning, but still
a bit cool. It looks deceptively warm outside...but don't be fooled! At
least for this morning you will need some layers to keep warm! Mother
Nature is sending some warmer weather for this afternoon though. We
should all be able to get outside and play in the sunshine.

It is sunny on Kiawah this
morning, but MUCH cooler than recent mornings. Has anyone noticed that the
robins have arrived a tad early this year? They have been flitting
all over the place, apparently eating the berries on the palm trees.
Perhaps they are harbingers of an early spring?
Weather:
It is 40 chilly degrees at 9:00 this morning. It would seem that
we are finally receiving December weather. Today's high should be in
the upper fifties, tonight's low near forty.

least we will see some sunny skies!
** Happy Kwanzaa! **
** Happy Boxing Day! **
Kwanzaa is a 7 day festival
celebrating
the African American people, their culture and their history. It is a
time of celebration, community gathering, and reflection. A time of
endings and beginnings.
Today is also the second day of
Christmas, or Boxing Day, and in the Bahamas, it is Junkanoo!
Junkanoo is a 300 year-old festival , and is like Mardi Gras with
African tribal rituals. It is a HUGE party, full of music, art and
fierce costume competition. So why not select your favorite holiday,
grab your family and friends, and celebrate anew? Have a great day
everyone...

December
22, 2006 Week-end Edition
Kiawah is overcast again this morning, with
slight sprinkles covering the island. And no, NOT the kind you put on
holiday cookies, but rather the wet chilly kind! There is a chance
of thundershowers this afternoon, but even if they do not arrive, it
will be a warm rainy day. Hopefully you have a good book to read
or something else that will keep you warm & dry!
Did you know?
The Ursids meteor
shower will strut it's stuff tonight and tomorrow night. If you head outside
after dark and look to the North, you should see 15 to 25 medium speed meteors
per hour all night long. Enjoy!
While you are looking skyward this week-end,
perhaps you will see a fat man in a red suit
flying about as well? With eight tiny reindeer? If you can't find Santa with
your very own eyes, you can always check the
North American Air Defense Command
web site. Yes, believe it or not, there is an entire web site dedicated to
"tracking" his progress across the globe as he delivers his toys!
Check it out...
Want to play a little game while you wait for Santa
to arrive? Visit Santa's Toy Hunt
and Santa Tracker in Google Earth by clicking here... You can search
the Earth for giant toys and track Santa as he makes his deliveries beginning on
December 24th.

the weary as folks hustle to get their holiday shopping done, or finish
packing to travel to see their families, or run to the store for that
final ingredient to make their holiday feast "just so". Will you be
able to take time to relax today?

December
15, 2006 Week-end Edition
Kiawah is overcast this morning, but actually
quite warm. It is foggy too, reminiscent of the Carl Sandburg poem.
There were "fog fingers" scattered about, winding through the marsh,
stretched across the water. In case you have not seen the poem recently,
here it is:
The fog creeps in on
little cat feet.
It sit on silent haunches,
Looking over harbor and city,
And then moves on.

Kiawah is sunny but C-O-L-D this morning! It
is deceptively bright and sunny, but quite a bit chillier than last week,
that is for certain! It is peculiar to glance outside and see what
appears to be warmth and sunshine, but when you step outside, your senses
tell you a different story!

Astronomy 101:
The Full Cold Moon; or the Full Long Nights Moon is tonight
at 7:24 p.m. It is so named because during December the winter cold
fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest. It is also
sometimes called the Moon before Yule. The term Long Night Moon is a
doubly appropriate name because the midwinter night is so long, and
because the Moon is above the horizon for a long time. The midwinter full
Moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low
sun.
